You really love to watch your post count growing, don't you? Another absolutely pointless question...

There is a video on last pages where you can see that desert storms can be pretty harsh also in Dubai... But I don't see how is this "how often does Dubai get hit by extreme sand storm" linked to Burj Dubai construction...

THAT's one of the most important things. Knowing forces. Risk analysis. The basics for the calculation.

Jesus man chill out, climate is an important factor to consider when constructing a tower, and even if it wasn't, no need to fire abuse at the first sign of simeone straying from the topic. It's a discussion forum, conversations will advance and develop, that's how the human mind works.

Yeah but you are comparing a powerfully storm with a Category 4 hurricane, which isn't the same thing.

The one in Riyadh shown in the pictures/video and the one in Dubai shown on that video are NOT comparable.

How many times I have to repeat that?

Damn it, since when seeing a few pictures over the Internet of phenomenas never experienced first hand in any way, counts more then the life experiences of the people who have lived there for at least a decade?

I was not comparing anything, just said that that question was pointless...

I just don't like it when people post 99% off-topic or ask questions they can answer in 1 minute listing thread pages or using Google... That's all...

These sand storms really suck - it wreaks havoc, and makes a big mess...

However (like someone else said) thats part of life over there.. just like Im prone to experiencing a gigantic magnitude 8+ earthquake at ANY time here in Los Angeles where I live (lol, everybody acts like Los Angeles is the greatest place to live, lol)... Ironically, its going to be the skyscrapers in downtown Los Angeles that are going to by far hold up to the shaking the best... we had an earthquake here in 1994 which took place on a strike slip fault which caused intense up/down shaking, which yielded some of the greatest ground acceleration EVER recorded under any modern city (it was a 6.8 quake in the center of a huge populated area and measured a 9+ on the mercali intensity scale).. The earthquake in Sumatra was of this same exact kind, except it was a 9+ pointer (the strike/slip faults create BY FAR the most intense quakes - the earthquakes that shake side to side are nowhere near as bad, which is why the "big one" that LA is going to get probably wont be as bad as what we got 15 years ago... Despite all of this, people LOVE it here and take it in stride.
Ive seen some sand storms pick up in the Mojave desert (death valley) where the highest temperature on earth was ever recorded (160 miles from LA), and I can remember one in particular that was very scary when I was out in the middle of nowhere - I thought I was literally going to suffocate!!

These sand storms are just a product of life in that region... they dont have to deal with hurricanes, and not too many quakes.. Also, Dubai is not very prone to tidal waves like a lot of other coastal cities are -its a trade-off...
The winds in these sandstorms are very strong, but they are not as strong as say a hurricane (category 1 or higher) - I have a friend who visits over there 3 times a year, and he mentioned that the winds in these storms can get up to 75-80 mph... lol

yes they are strong winds, but these skyscrapers are built very strong, and the cranes are REALLY bolted down to these structures! I highly doubt that these winds were strong enough to move the cranes (maybe shake them but thats it). Sorry if I got off topic too much!!

Can anyone provide me with info or links to documents about occupation? With pretty much every other skyscraper being built it's known which companies are renting how much space or how many apartments are already sold.

When it comes to this project, I can't find anything.

Many people were complaining about lack of history, culture and museums in the city so the developer, considering also the current crisis, decided to convert the tower into the "Histoy of Arts Museum Dubai".

When open it will hold the title of World's tallest museum.

Las Vegas? Sure it sounds like Dubai, a city on a desert, but comparing buildings of those two cities is very big misunderstanding and comparing those two cities in general is wrong!
