I've seen it in person....last June (even BEFORE it was full height). The Burj was so f*ing tall that I almost broke my neck trying to see the top of it--and I was almost a mile away!!! LOL! It's taller than you can image, that's all I can say.

Standing close to the base, you would practically have to bend backwards to see the top!

And what we want is not for this forum to be put on the censor list of banned sites in the UAE, for what is generally bullshit content and highly fabricated statements, in particular by the UK media.

Fixed your statement for you.

It's not possible to censor. Look at Wikileaks - it just moved its server to India.

How do you think the people here who take photographs of the Burj Dubai will manage to post on the forum to update the likes of you, if the site is banned due to insensitive and ignorant internet warriors stirring up trouble totally unnecessarily?

Bleat all you want. It'll be your loss.

1. It is not all that bad. The construction workers have their dignity and take pride in what they are doing. Period. They earn enough for a good living back home, where they most likely would not have found a comparably decent job if they had stayed. So why not take the chance and come to work in Dubai for a couple of years building skyscrapers? Enhancing skills and thus increasing their value on the market back home.

2. This thread is about the technical aspects of BD construction.

3. If you want updates from people who live here you will have to live with the fact, that access to sites slamming the values of UAE may be blocked. However, also keep in mind that these "dark sides" have been discussed here many times already and are being discussed in the Sky Majlis of the UAE section here on SSC on a 24/7 basis.
Yet SSC is still not blocked... well thats because usually only sexual content is blocked and freedom of speech is widely granted. However, you can never be sure about the blocking, since the filter is somewhat automated (software looking for keywords). And whats more, the government hates it when wrong information and bashing about the living conditions in UAE is circulated! Which I think is fair.

4. The general slamming is based on parroting fishy media releases. The other day I read somewhere that Dubai ran out of packing cases I mean.. c'mon man, that is really some creative journalism..... respect.

5. If you think I am saying all of the above because I am afraid to go in jail or get kicked out of the country if I am not in line with government statements... Then I must say you guys are paranoid.

Your Goverment did worse some years back. Ask David Kelly ... oh wait, you can't.

Back to topic for the others interested on the topic: Not much to report today, the visibility was not good when I drove (near)by, but I saw the crane on top fully rotated and with his back toward the tower, which we thought would have been impossible due to the steel section recently put there.
