I suppose it's only fair to expect Emaar to hawk their wares on this most visible landmark.

As if the building doesn't speak for itself

It better be temporary, it just cheapens the look of the tower.
At least Coca-Cola didn't finance it, can you imagine the bill board...

Hi all.

Great shots Imre - Thanx.

The cladding is up into tier 20 - looking good. The BMU's are getting set up on the terraces - seems there is a new one every week.

Cul your diagram is looking good.

Didn't someone mention recently that the crane can still rotate 360 degrees? It looks absolutely impossible from Imre's photo:

Though with the boom raised high, it should be able to switch from facing to the right of the building to facing to the left of the building.

Wrong assertion in a non-perfect visibility day.

Hi all.

I figured that when I posted this shot.

I didn't want to argue with Altin or OTR as they are in Dubai and I am on the other side of the globe. I posted that the crane's ability to rotate 360 was going to be hampered ages ago - long before they put up the sections that are in the way.

In the guys from Dubai's defence - without closeup shots it's probably hard to see if the boom 30 or 40 degrees from facing straight away from the structure (like when your looking up from the ground).

Babu Sassi Urban Legend?

Has anybody heard anything lately about the crane operator, Babu Sassi...if this guy is still staying up there...or if he ever really was?

http://www.hoax-slayer.com/babu-sass...operator.shtml

It never seemed plausible to me...among other things food, water, bathroom, laundry, shower, safety regs, 24-hour work shift...eh common?

Hi all.

Hi Land. I always thought it was a fable - for the reasons you just mentioned.

The cladding of tiers 19, 20, and the small wings of tiers 22 to 26 have holes near the tops of some panels. I name these tiers as they are partially or fully cladded. The holes are probably for lighting which is not unusual but they seem to be placed haphazardly here and there. I would think they would be placed symmetrically, as in every other panel or every third on the sections where they are not on every panel. I wonder what the reason for the uneven placement is ?

I just realized that the Burj Dubai is pretty much exactly ten times the height of the tallest building in Oldenburg: http://www.cityalbum.de/germany/rund...b/pict0007.jpg

That's really damn huge.

these 150 meter fountains shooting up near the burj dubai could also be possibly taller

Next week I am going for my second time to Dubai. What is the closest spot near the Burj Dubai where I can go? And does someone know a building where I can get to the top/roof to make photos of the view?
