I was told by one of the expat mqanagers on the project that they Fecked up big style with the beacon that has been shown in Culwullas diagram mant times.

They simply forgot, and do not have a mechanism to install at this stage.

So you mean that they forgot to take down the temporary beacons? So how will they install the real beacons?

I imagine a rope and a winch would be a good bet on how to install them. Surely they have a strategy in place to fix the becons should anything happen to them in their lifetime.

I think rope would be easiest.

have i missed something..... last time i checked they already had a beacon up there.

now, i've not been a fan of the beacon, it looks kinda cheap. id prefere one that looks like it does in the renders we've seen.

So whats going on guys?

the current beacons may have been temp?
if they replace with original design, it will add 1metre to spire. thus 819m.

apparently they screwed up with installing the beacon, as it was intended to look like the one in the renders.
it seems legitimate coming from OTR, but i am in disbelief that they would mess up on something as major as this.

Hi all.

Some interesting info OTR.

I posted repeatedly before the jacking proceedure began that they still had to attach the top platform. Then jacking commenced with only the 3 beacons on top. It was then assumed to be another revision.

I like the planned platform with the 1.1 meter high handrail, the 3 bigger beacons than what are up there now, and the BMU monorail that extends all the way around the platform so the pinnacle could be cleaned.

I had hoped they would still put it up but had given up on that notion.
1 - There is no way they just forgot to erect the top platform et al. I trust implicately what OTR says as he is one of our longtime forummers that I have never heard any bullshit out of. Perhaps the manager meant something much less.
2 - The 15 mm thick - 1.5 meter dia. deck alone would weigh hundreds of lb's. Let alone all the handrail, monorail, supports, and 1 meter dia. beacons. Although not impossible - it would be a major bitch to hoist up there and erect all that now.
3 - They surely would have planned to erect all that before jacking as it would have been relatively easy then. Just assemble it all on the podium, hoist it up complete with the crane, and weld it on.

Let me repeat - I would like to see the planned top platform up there.

Hi Cul,

Going by this guys statement, heads rolled for this oversight.

I think your diagrams have been pretty accurate to date and pretty much detailed including the beacon, so why a design change?

I tend to trust what this guy was saying, even down to the revised late 2010 opening , and information about the indoor pools on the upper tiers that open out onto the setbacks and view out only to the horizon at water level.....scarey.

He was very knowledgable, but then again maybe just a SSC forumer that makes him amongst the most advised individuals around outside the official management

Burj dubai is self supported.
game over.
The images are semi submersible platforms, and float only.

The anchor wires only hook it up to the sea bed to limit the movement for drilling operations.
