Can we vote for the most weird person in SkyscraperCity?

If we can, I vote eddyk.

Please tell us the file size - some of us are under internet usage caps, or charges per gigabyte, that we need to watch how much bandwidth we are using per month. Also, if we have a slow connection, a download might take longer than reasonable, or we might time out on a session using a public machine such as in a library.

Also, would it be reasonable to put up a link to these big files on the website:

Burjdubaiskyscraper . com, so that as days and weeks go by, we will know a constant place to access these files.

Thank you

A tip: If the link says "GIXAPIXEL" and you are worried about using up your quota on your AOL dialup, just don't click on the link.

1,000 Art Works to
 Adorn Burj Dubai

Martin Croucher, 28 May 2009

DUBAI — One thousand specially commissioned pieces of art will adorn the interior of the Burj Dubai and the accompanying boulevard when it is opened in September.

Master developer Emaar unveiled the first piece of art, World Voices by Jaume Plensa, on Wednesday.

The sculpture features 196 cymbals, cast in bronze and plated with 18-carat gold, which represent the 196 countries of the world.

“Burj Dubai is a body and a house,” said Plensa in a recent visit to Dubai.

“My piece is at the entrance of the house and creates a soul inside
the body.”

The selection process for the art works has taken over a year, and winners were chosen personally by Emaar Chairman Mohamed Alabbar. [email protected]

You probably ought to go back to math class, the number in the top right corner of each posting is the number of posts in this thread. There are now over 18,000 in this thread and I forget whether this is the 3rd or 4th thread for this building.

There are 32,000 separate "tiles" making up the image, totalling around 640MB. You only download what you zoom into (that's the whole point of Zoomify), so typically, you're probably only going to look at a very small fraction of what's actually available.

Total bandwidth chewed up so far is only 4.6GB*.

People are free to link to it from wherever they want.

(* Just looked up the detailed stats. 400 unique visitors so far, so on average only 10MB per person.
