I took my video camera with me and wanted to do a "drive-by-shooting" video of the tower. Unfortunatelly no such luck ... sand stom ... not much to see.

Same thing with the concrete floors that the crane tower was lashed against. They have big square shapped sections of the slab missing that the tower went into...not sure how they are gonna deal with that. You can really see those on the high resolution ga-zillion pixel BD photo.

They'll probably just erect some temporary formwork to cast the remaining holes in the floors. Though the crane segments needed to fill in are a bit larger, I'm figuring these touchups could be done by forms small enough to be brought up in a freight elevator or by the BMU.

I haven't checked out the progress in ages. The tower really has a dream-like quality to it. Unbelievable.

Hi all.

I agree that forming and pouring the concrete where the crane mast is/was will be no biggie. They can bring the materials and a small mixer up in the elevators. The small steel bits needed to finish the wing tips facing the now removed crane mast will be fairly routine to bolt/weld on also.

Now that the crane is out of the way we can see the top of BS3/F elevator shaft. It is right behind the crane and the highest greenish panelling is its top level - 160. The orangish covered in area above is the machine room for it. The shaft starts somewhere between level 125 and 131 - I can't tell exactly from what I have.

Level 160 is where BS4 elevator starts that goes up into tier 18 - again I can't tell which section it goes to from what I have. BS4 is the worlds highest elevator installation. It is fairly short though - even if it goes to section 18B (the highest section of tier 18) and it probably does, it is only 25.6 meters tall.

Must be Google Pages hitting some bandwidth limit.

I'll re-host them somewhere else.
