opening in at 12:00AM 1st January 2010 would be an appropriate idea.

December of 2009 is not too far, for the grand opening, of course September 9 of 2009 was really a good date... i hope that delay (to December) be the last one, until the grand opening.

Interesting shot there, Christos, taking in Burj Dubai and QE2. The QE2 looks a little sad just sitting there waiting to be scraped - I mean "refurbished".

Well said.

I think all the comments on Imre's buddies interior shots are a little premature. I'm sure when all is said and done the interior will look good. Just can't tell me they would be satisfied with shoddy fitouts in the WTS and their flagship.

On another note - the press releases .........
BLAH BLAH BLAH ..............
Knowing they (Emaar) knew all along the completion date was far later than the previous numerous press releases about completion leaves me a tad pessimistic. Couple that with all the bullshit releases about the height and telescopic pinnacles and what not I have little faith in the press. I think most times they don't have a f$%#en' clue what they are talking about. They should come here and get informed before releasing anything. Mind you I see most of them are including 818 in their spiels - I wonder where they got that number ......

Hi Fury,

Thx. Totally agree, I think it's way too early in the day to make a proper judgement on BD's interior/s, there's still much work to be done here yet. Yep, can't see Emaar making a mess of this - not when it comes to such a monumental and iconic project such as Burj Dubai.

I suppose you have to take all of these press releases with a pinch of salt ... an open mind is always best huh. I'm more than sure than whenever Burj Dubai's doors do finally open it will have been well worth the wait.

One thing is for sure, Burj Dubai will stand alone for a very long time to come.....

If the Burj Dubai won't be finished until December. They should do a large Firework display from the Tower on New Years Eve. And open they Building to the Public on 1/1/10.

Those fountains look amazing. Yup 01-01-10 would be a good date too for grand opening.

Sounds good to me! A new year's opening would actually be more special when you think about it.

Hi Imre.

I think vanhenrik was reposting from one of my earlier posts when he posted that. Anyway the test and commisioning dates are much earlier than the handover dates.

Here is a repost showing a different part of the same list.

... To sum up - the estimated opening date from 2 years ago was around Mar '10 and Emaar was saying much earlier all along

As I posted yesterday Emaar has known the completion date is much later than what they led the general public to believe with their press releases. I have articles from '06 when they were saying completion in 2008 ...

It's not so much of a misconception as it is revision and always presuding sound face to the investment community at large.

Did they goof and announce completion dates too early? Perhaps so. Are they wrong to lead us thinking that it'll be done a year or even two years ahead of schedule? One may lean toward yes in this case. At the same time though, any kind of distrust and unstability leads to doubt that they can get the job done at all which is simply not good for them.

It's a *CONSTRUCTION* project - things get delayed, take longer than normal, and sometimes fall out of the original schedule.

Is it just more that people are angry thinking they should've announced the delays sooner or do people really think Emaar outright deceived people with the dates? Maybe I'm wrong to guess that they were just exceptionally optimistic and couldn't meet their original deadlines but to say they're lying flat out seems a bit harsh.

As others said, even if they had known about the greater timetable (ie, to 2009 / 2010) all along, then sure, they shouldn't have probably announced things as they did but it's simply business to convey confidence and well-doing. I don't see them however, rushing (more than they are I mean) to complete the building before the December date simply because of the quality involved.

Rush the rush job and you'll get crap quality in return - something that simply can't be afforded with this project.

Thanks Fury,

Credit for you, forget Vanhenrik

So it seems Emaar already knew in 2004 that the handover date is around Q1 2010

01/01/10 is nice number but the 10/10/10 is also nice

That will be the date when the (09/09/09) Red Line of the Dubai Metro will be 100% FULLY completed and operational.
