I just hope there will be some good documentary movie about the tower. It would be a pitty if they did not let anybody enter the construction site with camera while it was all under construction.

How do they get the panel up to 23B?

How will this panel be lifted up to Tier 23B?

Isn't there more than one panel needed at 23B? It's the whole top level of steel structure that needs cladding

The panels are 6m long which is too long to fit into any elevators, and it's going up much higher than any of them do.

The higher crane is at L159 = T17, and some BMU's are available above that.
I see this job as needing some combination of the crane and one or more high BMU's to get the panel from the ground up to where it's going.

Previously they said the cranes would be gone by early August. Here they're saying " in the coming weeks" - maybe later August or in September. It appears they cannot remove the cranes until the cladding is 100.0% done, going by what they are saying here.

This panel-lifting job looks like a variation of a top-out ceremony to me. - I thought all the panels have been lifted up already to the various levels where they are needed - they just needed to finish installing them.

Any comments ? Thank you

I think that that last piece of cladding was made months ago and it is now already up there and ready to be installed. The news about last glass cladding are so just another trick from Emaar i think.

The cladding has already been lifted up and stored on the set backs.

Discovery Channel and National Geographic Channel have both a documentary already of the first part of the construction (300m or something). So I'm sure they continue this until it finished.

They have documentaries of the construction of the Petronas Towers, Taipei 101 and the Burj Al Arab, so why not the Burj Dubai?

Hi all.

There has been a few docs on the mighty BD (there have been a few more on Dubai that had small blurbs on the BD but I will only include stuff about the BD proper);
1 - Short docs or segments of shows:
- Beyond Tomorrow 2006
- CBC Newsworld 2007
- Megastructures
2 - Full shows:
- Megabuilders 2006
- Really Big Things 2007
- Big, Bigger, Biggest 2008

I think like Dequal there has been filming done since the last documentaries on the Burj - hope so anyway. Perhaps they are waiting for completion to air them ?

Hey Library.

Like OTR and Blacksmith I think the cladding has been up there for a while. On the chance it is not your thoughts sound like the logical way to get it up there.

Section 23B has 26 cladding panels in total - 14 on the larger wing, 6 on the small wing, and 3 each on the 2 small half wings. All the small wings have been cladded for a while now - there is only the 14 pieces on the larger wing left to be installed.

Burj Dubai Set For Dec 2 Opening, Says Report

DUBAI, July 30 (Bernama) -- The world's tallest building, Burj Dubai, is set to officially open on Dec 2, according to a report.

Citing a senior architect working on the project, the Arabian Business said the date coincided with the National Day of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

"This will be a huge achievement and a big celebration for the UAE and for Emaar, particularly as it's UAE National Day," the unnamed architect told the business news provider.

The opening date as well as the final height of the super tall structure being developed by Emaar Properties that dominates the Dubai skyline have been among the best-kept secrets in town.

Burj Dubai, the centrepiece of Emaar's flagship mega project, the US$20 billion Downtown Burj Dubai, will feature residences and commercial space as well as hospitality elements.

And from the same site something about the cladding:

Last Of Burj Dubai's Glass Panels To Be Installed Soon

DUBAI, July 29 (Bernama) -- The last piece of glass cladding of the world's tallest building, Burj Dubai, is now ready and will be installed in the coming weeks.

The six-metre long glass, aluminium and steel piece -- panel number 24,348 -- will be placed at the bottom of Burj Dubai's spire, according to a statement from parties involved in the project.

Arabian Aluminium Company started work on the exterior cladding of Burj Dubai in April 2007.

Panels of more than 18 different strength specifications and over 200 sizes are being used for the building currently standing at over 800m.

Being developed by Emaar Properties, the tower is scheduled to open later this year.

I saw a discovery channel commercial which feautured Burj Dubai in it. They'd reckognised that it was 818m, so I think it is slowly becoming obvious to these people.

Probably the same as it does now, but with less cranes.

because its made by arabs. They might not want to show the world that arabs are fully capable of constructing better and taller buildings than americans...

That sounds like a resonable explanation!Ok, I'll stop now!
