Thanks for the comparison. I've been wondering about the width myself since a few people have complained that it's wayyy too thin up on top. The scale of this thing is huge, so from far down on the ground it's going to appear thin, when in fact the floors will be more than livable/workable for a human.

Any specs on the square footage of the floors up top? A 4-5 room apt in Montreal is around 1000 square feet.

Are the cranes being used to hoist the cladding?

If yes, then this may explain why both are still being used. In order for the contractor to catch up from the delays to the cladding installation, they may have negotiated and redesigned the construction of the spire.

I recall seeing some leaked documents about quite a sharp exchange of words in the form of letters between the main cladding contractor and the BD project management. These included a request for an extension to the time allocated for cladding installation which were flatly refused with no chance for negotiation. At around this time there were rumours of yet another redesign to the tower, which backs up my hypothesis.

Hey welcome Albert. Lots of fun things to discuss in skyscrapercity, especially in the Burj Dubai thread.

Looks like they are going forward with 2 cranes to speed up the construction. One crane lifting steel half way and the upper 2 the other half. Great pics Imre

Everything about this project is now setting records, just look at that scaffolding platform right at the top of the steelwork, seems to be a ladder going up to it from the platform below ... has to be a world record for the highest ever constructed!

How far to the magic 628.8m mark?

No. Imre's previous set also showed it, as did Altin's set from yesterday.

I think by the end of the year they will be over 600m for sure. Especially if they will keep both cranes on top. Not far away when Burj Dubai becomes world tallest freestaning structure.
