There was a 392m proposal, called Parkhaventower. The city didn't want such a huge devellopment at the time because there were many other devellopment areas in the city which were more important. Bad decision I think, because it could have been a big boost to the city and those other areas as well.

But maybe we will see a new project here soon, since those other areas are in full devellopment now and will be finished in the next years.

The Parkhaventoren was planned to house the new 'cityprovince' Rotterdam-Rijnmond but as plans for that were scrapped and an economic recession started it was scrapped. And indeed priorities lay elsewhere.

This is 100% bullshit, that rijnmond province story was 10 years earlier, maybe you are mistaken with another project...

The Parkhaventower should house mostly residential and leisure. But the vast investment in infrastructure needed to be payed by the city and priority of the city government to other huge projects in the city stopped it from being build.
Economicaly weak times came later and were not a reason the project died.

A few new proposals for Rotterdam

Hoogte: ca. 125m
Architect: Ralph van Mameren, O.M.A.
Ontwikkelaar: Multi Vastgoed
Bouwsom: 75 miljoen
Programma: 33.000m2 kantoor, 17.000m2 parkeren (360 plaatsen)

"A remarkable tower will rise on one of the nicest spots in Rotterdam. The site offers unique views to the Erasmus bridge and over the river Maas. The characteristic shape of the building appears different from every side and stands out in the skyline of Rotterdam, while providing a unique layout potential through the absence of a central core.

Wide at the bottom to match the existing footprint and slim at the top to prevent blocking the view of adjacent towers results in a remarkable contextual shape. Big office floors, voids, bridges and views throughout the building offer the user a lively activator for contact and internal communication. This spacious layout, together with high quality finishing, a sky lobby with roof terrace and a unique panorama-restaurant on the top level makes this a development extraordinary to Dutch standards."

The Boompjes, although situated in the city centre, unites in itself the possibility to still have spectacular views and lots of daylight on all floors. At this unique site, near a number of restaurants, the Erasmusbridge and the Willemsbridge, the design takes optimal use of its site potential. Different types of office-use for both small and big tenants characterize this tower both in expression as in use.

At lower levels large floors are offered with a large void and 2 separate entrances. The top with a view rising over neighboring buildings has the nicest orientation towards the south and the Erasmusbridge. The middle part offers on one hand by cantilevering over the sidewalk lively views over the Nieuwe Maas, on the other hand by cantilevering over the Hertekade one of the nicest views in Rotterdam; that of the Oude Haven and the Scheepsmakershaven. The stacked principle offers on 4 levels the opportunity for a roof garden and by giving each top layer an extra ceiling height you will give 4 layers the experience of being on the top floor. High quality materialization and finishing, large entrances spacious parking facilities and a double high floor suitable for a panorama-restaurant on the top level makes this development extraordinary in the Dutch context.

And these are the latest pics for the Zalmhaven development. The height is increased to 208 meters and that would be the first 200+ in the Netherlands.

Thanks to tim de bruin for the images

Awesome! It's like a laboratory of new architecture.
