What is it that Conservatives seem to have with incredibly crappy pseudo tram designs for busses? If you are going for busses what is the point of pretending it to be a tram? I mean every child can see that it's not. Is it for aesthetics? But who thinks those pseudo-tram busses look nice?

If you scrap a streetcar line at higher costs than finishing it merely for ideological reasons why not go for a contemporary bus design at least? There are so many nice modern designs out there. And with modern designs you can also go for low floor busses with efficient door design, reducing stop times, enabling wheel chair compatibility etc...

I like the new busses in my city, both design and functionality:

I think the problem is that in American English the word "trolley" may mean different things to different people.

But these buses in the shape of a streetcar are properly labeled:

Trackless Wireless Trolleys:

commonly known as Twits, which is a great way for describing the vehicles, the people who support building them and the passengers who ride inside them.

At least Rob Ford was not totally opposed to transit since Eglinton Crosstown line was able to be built.

I think Cincinnati's mayor must be on a drug much more powerful than crack (I am guessing meth)?

Nah, I think he's got a serious case of short man syndrome. He has to do stupid crap like this to make himself feel large and in charge.

Rob Ford also wants to get rid of Toronto's streetcars, and the Eglinton LRT is getting built in spite of him, not because of him. He tried to make it all underground, and almost got away with it. Council, a year after he did that, voted to stick 1/3 of the line above ground again and instead build 23km of LRT in other parts of the city.

PG Sittenfeld, a previously anti-streetcar councilman, is expected to come out in support of the streetcar tomorrow. This isn't over yet!

@VotePG will give streetcar position at 8:30 tues. His takeaway from today: to cancel now would be unprecedented & hurt relationship w feds.

So if I'm reading right, the streetcar project is canned? Or is this guy just vowing to have it canned?

In addition to another council member, the local paper is now coming out in support of the project.

EDITORIAL: Finish the streetcar

The construction is going to be halted soon, so they can investigate weather to continue or abandon the project.

So here's the latest:

1. Council voted to stop spending until the costs to cancel the roject are determined, then they'll decide whether or not to move forward.

2. A private company came forward and offered to pay for an entire weeks construction, and an independent audit on the costs to cancel the project. Cranley turned them down (moron).

3. The audit will be done by KPMG.

4. The Fed's said that if Cincinnati doesn't decide to move forward with construction by midnight on December 19th, they will yank all of the federal funding for the project.

Since they already ordered the streetcars, are they still getting built? I know my city(kansas city) piggy backed on Cincy's order to get a better price and I am wondering how this cancelled project will effect us. Will Cincy just sell their cars to another city? Will KC buy the extra cars at a discounted rate for their future lines?

I actually remember reading that if the streetcars are delivered, they won't be placed into service (since the project is cancelled). Instead, they'll put them underground into the subway and open up the Museum of Failed Cincinnati Transit Projects. They will fit snugly here between the platforms at Race Street Station:
