Hope you guys don’t mind me asking some question in English…

HafenCity is really impressive. I really like that it seems that the masterplan really respects and fit the surrounding city.

Have it seen many cancelations in as a consequence of the credit crunch?

Is the boroughs official name HafenCity or Havenstadt? And if it is called City, why is that?

Many people even in Hamburg don't understand it as well. Probably because Dorf in "HafenDorf" could be mixed up easily with ... >>>

And "HafenVillage" sounds too stupid, though meets the resulting reality much better.

Because a new language is rising up in Germany, called "Denglish" a product of "BSE"="Bad simple English"

Other words or sentences in Denglish(BSE) you should know, if you want to visit Germany beside "Hafen-City":

"Handy" (In Germany a handy is not the "Handie-Talky"(military) it's a mobile Phone)
"Douglas- come in and find wieder raus"
"T-Point"
"Power durch Emotion"
"info-Point"
"RTL-II News"
"Chief Executive Officer der Bademoden Abteilung"
"kunden-Meeting"
"Centrum"
"Der Flug wurde gecancelt"

and many more you can find here

The phenomenon of using of English in the Danish language or the tacky mix the two languages that you mention is very widespread. It always seemed to me to be some kind of misunderstood attempt to sound international, but I also thought that it was because that the Danish was under pressure due to globalization and the fact that it is only spoken by aprox. 5.5 mill…

Although I don’t see the need to overuse English in Danish, I definitely don’t understand why it is used in German! As it is still such a large language… I wouldn’t imagine a similar phenomenon in e.g. France, Spain or Italy…

How is Hafencity affected by the credit crunch?

The Hafencity Project is not much affected.

The most affected ones are the ones where the City self wants to build something.

Like the Scince Center the City lacks here on Money.
this one will build later... Hopefully...

and the Hafencity University wich finally they starts bulding now.

Most of the Hafencity area cut in small parts and so there are no greate Parts where only one Investor have to lift a big and costly construction sites.

If a Investor can't start building there part of the Projekt the Construction site go to another Investor.

They only have a small time slot to start the construction. If they don't managed it they lost the right for the developing site.

like it Happened with the BF 30
The Investors lost his renter, they lost the site, now anotherone make the biz.

There is only one big construction site the ÜBERSEEQUARTIER there the Investor has the right to protract the schedule and the Investor became an drop out renter. The City it self will rent a big office if they can't find someone else.
Two sites here will be developt later.

Sorry for being off topic, but I'd say thats rather from Latin than English. You could see "Centrum" signs already 100 years again in German speaking cities. Long before English became en vogue. (Last phrase being a nice example of how large the imprint of French on English has been over the time).

As far as it comes to the "Hafen City". I can't wait for seeing the Überseequartier finished.

yes, its from latin and not from english, but germans think, it is englisch, so they write centrum and not "Zentrum" in hope to let their city-center sounding more international.

Sollte man ans Berliner Tor translozieren.
