While I love Ottawa, I'd hesitate to call it one of North America's most beautiful cities. Greenest, sure, but for beauty in Canada I'd look more towards somewhere like Quebec City, Victoria or Vancouver.

1. New York
2. San Francisco
3. Vancouver
4. Guadalajara
5. Seattle/Sante Fe

I'm giving the natural setting a lot of preference here. New York defies nature.

What's the name of that blue-glass spired tower with the setbacks? Its awesome.

San Fran
Montreal
Quebec City
Boston
Charleston

I have not seen enough of Mexican cities either in person or photos to judge accurately. And part of me wants to put NYC and Chicago but I the word beautiful doesn't necessarily come to mind even though I think they have some of the best buildings and neighborhoods.

Really difficult to assess unless you have walked the streets of all these cities. Also, the definition of beauty is very personal so while some may like the tall towers and architechture of New York or Chicago, others will prefer the backdrop of cities like Vancouver or Seatle.

Personally, I think Quebec City is really hard to beat:

From the cities I've been to in North American, in terms of built form I'd nominate Quebec City. Really is an awesome place to just wander around and explore. Feels more European than some European cities. I have yet to see anything else like it in North America (not that I've seen all of North America).

Overall for top 5 in built form I'm not all that sure. From where I've been I'll say...

Quebec City
Montreal
San Francisco
Victoria
New York

Those pictures of the Mexican cities look quite impressive though. I didn't know they had so much great old architeture. That isn't usually what I think about when I think of Mexican cities but the only Mexican city I've really been to is Tijuana so it probably isn't the best representative for such things.

In terms of setting, I'll have to play the hometown card and pick:

Vancouver
Seattle
San Francisco
Kelowna
Victoria

Mexico is part of north america. Many people are confused about the country´s location between central america and the u.s.a. But officially Mexico is part of north america. The three NAFTA countrys are Canada ,U.S.A, and Mexico.

I still say that Mexico City is the most beautiful city in terms of architecture, and culture. I cant agree the in some canadian cities you feel like in europe. When you walk in downtown of mexico city you really feel like if you were in Mardid, or any other european cities.

I can't stand the stuff in Mexico city, not my taste of architecture at all.

San Francisco
vancouver
Montreal
...
The last two are hard to pick, though.
