NEW YORK | 80 South Street | 438m | 1436ft | 113 fl | Demo

The ever-changing, ever-growing 80 South St. saga continues...

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Latest iterations:

80 South Street
--New York--

Morali Architects, Feb. 7 2013

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As previously Designed by Santiago Calatrava
At 251 meters (342 m spire), it is not the tallest building going up in New York, but definitely one of the must unique. It was announced last year, approved a few months ago, and is slated for construction later this year.
The most amazing thing, though, is that it will only have ten units. The first two cubes will house cultural institutions, and the next ten will hold one residence each. The building will have 55 floors.
There might have been a thread about this a while back, but I couldn't find one.
It looks like something from the flintstones.. It looks kind of fragile, I don't know if I like it.
I don't see the point. If it's only going to hold ten units, you think it should look good.
Calatrava is a genius. If just 1 new tower gets built in the next 100 years, let it be this one. Good God I can't wait to see it rise.
Nice, I love the idea of ten units only. Imagine how much an apartment, one unit, would cost. I wont be suprised if it was in the hundreds of millions.
I don't like the look of it (too thin), but the concept is unique and interesting.
Let's see how it goes...
It is definitely unique and I am still trying to decide whether or not I like it ... I will wait and see what it looks like once it has been constructed. It is a great addition to melting pot of styles in NYC.
at first you think impossiable, no way
after you roll it around in your head for a while it just makes sense.
What makes his buildings great is that he takes the boundries of normality and chucks them out the window. Then he goes about entertaining the senses. The design for our symphony hall in Atlanta is just as brilliant.
That sure will be one hell of a house to take a date back for a roll in the hay.
Definitely different!
It would be interesting to see how this turns out in real life as compared to the render. I'm going to keep an eye on this project's status.
It's a cool design and it would be great for Tokyo or Shanghai,but definitely not in NYC...
at first I didn't like it, but its grown on me. nyc has old stodgy masonry buildings. it can also use some random whimsical ones. anything to lighten the load of Fortress Freedom.
