Honestly, I never did like this design, and it doesn't seem to fit in well with the rest of the area it's in.

So what. NYC became big by building towers which 'didn't fit in well'. This design is very interesting and if it can be built somewhere it is in NYC. I think there are not many cities where a project like this can be done financially.

By building something like this NYC can show that it can renew itself!

I don't think it fits well either, we all have our opinions that is what this forum is about... Besides, NY is always been one the greatest cities and its always renewing it self with or without this tower....

I can't wait to see this tower finish, that is the only way we will know how it really looks.

I also hope there are more renders soon...

I was going through a cube faze a few years back and drew something that was eerily similar to this. Except mine was on a larger scale and was for offices not residential. I really do love Calatrava's creativeness. I like the building but I think it would look better further inland. It wouldnt look so slim and fragile if it wasnt right on the river like that. Either way i look forward to seeing it built.

I love its prominence on the river. No one can deny its uniqueness and exclusiveness, and it's sure to rank among NY's greatest buildings ever built. And to me, that says something.

Literally, this project looks very ugly and unrealistic.

You seem to be in the vast minority. Have you seen Calatrava's work? Everything is fantastic. It's about time NYC takes some risk on some towers. I'm tired of the same ol' same ol'

You probably think Ivy Tower and the Biltmore look good. Would you rather towers like those get built at such a prominent site? I think not.

I personally don't like Calatrava stuff... But that's me...

I found this..

Visualizing Calatrava's Tower
To get a sense of just how radical Santiago Calatrava's 80 South Street tower will be, we wanted a closer look. What might living in these sky boxes feel like? These alternate views give more detail and perspective than anything else we've yet seen.

The roof of each cube will be the outdoor garden for the unit above, so make sure those orchids aren't leaking. A sales and marketing placeholder has already gone up on the web, poised to open for business the minute the offering plan is approved by the good offices of Eliot Spitzer.

I'm with you, I don't like this building very much. sure it's unique and I like the each box below is a units outdoor garden, but it's ugly. It looks like NY is getting a huge radio tower.

The one thing I love about this building is that it actually compliments the old spires of Woolworth, 40 Wall St. (Trump Building) and all the other older buildings in lower Manhattan instead of over powering it.

like what talb and talbot said, i don't like this project either. whether or not we need revolutionary architecture in nyc, the historic south street seaport's not the place for such radical design to get built.

this kind of design fits in better if it's built to stand all by itself instead of being built within another skyline and draw attention away from all the other surrounding buildings. if they build this in flushing near the corona park (this building looks like something that's devised for a world fair architectural showcase), i won't give a crap about it. lower manhattan's not the place for it though...

If you ask me, like someone earlier said it complements the spires of 40 Wall and AIG. It even looks nautical by nature, as if it's sailing into the East River. Plus it'll block views of the poorly designed "2 Gold Street" which just finished up.

I just think it's the most beautiful building I've ever seen. EVER! I'll cry if it doesn't get built. Seriously.
