It's awesome to have you here with us on the forum, cheers

Btw, the building looks incredible in my opinion. Modern, yet simple and elegant

This shape is much more interesting than what's on page 1, but yeah, it's like they weren't even trying with this rendering.

does that mean this building got shortened or that another building of 50 storeys is rising across the street?

Sorry Jay!

No worries... 80 South remains a supertall! That 50 Story would be rising across the street from this. Just wasn't sure where to post this. I think this tower could be 151 Maiden Lane.

This is a totally different tower. I will admit however, this will face fierce opposition in the public approvals process and will likely be approved in an altered state.

Not officially, GGP (the old developer) went bankrupt before the project entered public review. At that time there was intense opposition to the tower, so it was likely going to be a challenge to get it approved. Given the new anti-Bloomberg shift in City politics, this will be even harder to get approved... particularly at this height.

After this and the Harborside Financial Center development in Jersey City, it seems that's a new "trend" in ugly NYC-area architecture passing for refinement. Attempted imitation of 56 Leonard, I guess?

The good news here with the Howard Hughes Tower is that they selected the right architect for the job and that is ShoP architects.

IMO, ShoP and Robert AM Stern are probably THE go to guys in the city if contention is expected from LM & Preservation groups. They seem to work well with those groups and usually have success with their presentation and designs. Surprisingly, they are batting a high avg especially with their forward thinking designs.
