Another SHoP designed 1,300 footer at this location would be pretty epic.

Whoa talk about a nice counter balance to 1WTC on the east tip of downtown. Imagine viewing this from the Brooklyn promenade. It would look so imposing!

I hope 80 South would be a perfect bookend tower to 1 WTC like this...

The only issue I would have with a tower such a height in lower Manhattan is that my fear would be during the winter months. It's going to cast a shadow for like 30 mins during the day reaching all the way to my home and I live in the Upper East Side. Oh well, I guess I will have to move up my roof deck tanning time an hour ahead in 15 degree weather.

Heh, personally, I think the Burj is a better fit in Midtown. It looks in that photo to be almost exactly the same height as the width of the tip of Manhattan, which makes it a little wonky for me, visually. Not that I would really complain about an 2800 footer anywhere in the US...

Anyway, this is obviously very exciting news! I hope it surpasses the roof height of One World Trade, so we can set a new standard for Lower Manhattan. Given the slenderness of this tower, I'm guessing (and hoping) that SHoP is going to give us a modern twist on the classic golden era towers -- skinny, Gothic and soaring -- much like 111 W. 57th was a twist on the art deco gems of Midtown.

I'm not usually a big fan of supertalls being right on the waterfront, but if this is a great design, I'll make an exception; it'll be a great visual gateway at the mouth of the East River. My only hope is that there are more supertalls in the pipeline to fill the gap between 80 South and the WTC, so we don't wind up with two big goal-posts on either edge of the island for too long.

Yea, anyway there is no room to build such a mega tower especially in lower Manhattan anyway. It looks to take up a good couple of city blocks and midtown asfaik could have the space. The only existing sites that can accommodate such a tower in the Island of Manhattan would be the Convention Center site (to Queens please!) or Madison Square Garden (to Hudson Yards District) if they both relocate.

I don't care about the height, I'm interested in the design.

True, but I have high hopes with them designing this super tall.

I liked their concept design for the Gotham Gateway tower at MSG and I was a big fan of their early design of the Nordstrom and the Steinway is a gem.

Gotham Gateway

Nordstrom

Seaport Tower -This one has grown on me as well.
