I think its ugly too. I'm all for creativity and new radical designs, but come on, it doesn't mean that anything goes... This building looks like a bunch of blocks stacked up together with 2 poles. Plus its super thin and all by itself. It just doesn't belong, especially at that height. What a shame such an awful looking building is gonna be built right where I grew up.

Umm people have paid tens of millions already for apartments in NYC, including but no limited to the Time Warner Center and Trump World Tower.

People WILL pay. Construction is supposed to start late this year or early next year. It's approved, everything is all set.

It will be an instant icon on the skyline, as if NY needed another one.

People say 7 WTC is boring. People say this is too crazy. What the hell do you want from NYC?

Geo_Cast Predicts, Vol 1. No. 22

It is my Karnakian (strong strong strong) feeling that this building -----> ear-regardless (sic) <---- of what you may have already heard has a priori come to pass or has, in apsi facti delinquenti, come to pass, and which building I was super-pro-post-modernist-liking prepared to lOvE -- before I saw it, ...it is my Ks3 feeling that it shall never be built.

...if only because of the only-only-10-units grossly offensive implied elitism, super strong socio-tidal currents against which already grow under my feet, now, even as we keyboard...

Thank you, and goodnight (sic) everybody....

Stop going on the defensive here. Some of us are just stating are opinions on what we think of this project. It's not like anyone is forcing you to hate it. Is it crime to make an opposing statment on 80 South St? If I hate it, then that's just me saying that, and I am entitled to that, so stop with the personal attacks on the opposition.

It's going to be built; it's approved and is planned to start construction later this year.

Its funny because some pictures of this tower actually look pretty cool, but other pictures look awful. When I see the black and white drawing with the pipes on the left and right of each cube, it reminds me of a big tubular antenna or piece of construction equipment (like a scafolt).

Bottom line, the tubes that hold it up make the building look ugly. However, if that part of it is better hidden when it actually goes up, then I might give this tower a chance. For now I reserve judgement.

At 251 meters (342 m spire), it is not the tallest building going up in New York, but definitely one of the must unique. It was announced last year, approved a few months ago, and is slated for construction later this year.

The most amazing thing, though, is that it will only have ten units. The first two cubes will house cultural institutions, and the next ten will hold one residence each. The building will have 55 floors.

There might have been a thread about this a while back, but I couldn't find one.

Fantastic, I love Calatrava Architecture.
