I'm with Desertpunk here. Bring on Zaha Hadid. We haven't seen enough of her in the city. I'd also like to see BIG do a huge tower in the city.

Would love to see something like this:

I think that looks a bit too out there but I also think it would be nice to have a nice pointy crown on whatever gets built here. What do you guys think of the chicago spire going here (at the same 2000 foot height)?

Since it's a small site it'll probably be tall, but I can't say I agree that I want something like the picture you posted, that'd just be beyond overkill.

I think something like a better designed pentimonium in Dubai without balconies and with smoother glass or Waldorf Astoria in Chicago (both cancelled of course but cool) would look ideal here, at least that's what I picture when I think of a tower that would look good on the site. Maybe in the ~1500' range too

I didn't think that Hughes even built skyscrapers. I thought that they just did malls.

Anyway, considering the bad press that they've generated with a proposed 500' tower nearby, they definitely need a local developer to help them with a supertall even if it's as of right. They need someone with NY chutzpah.

The bad press was mostly at the hands of idiots who for some reason fought against a building less than 500 feet, in downtown Manhattan nonetheless, so I don't think that really looks bad on the developers but more the idiotic NIMBYs.

I'm sure glad this building is as of right though. But I'm kind of confused, I thought SHoP hinted that they were designing some 1400+ foot skyscrapers in NYC and one of them was at this site. But since a developer hasn't actually gotten control of the site, how does SHoP even know they're going to be the architects picked?

Pardon the ignorance, haven't read up on this a ton, I'm just going by what I've heard.

They are building some big new condo hi-rises in Honolulu.

Nice! Hopefully we hear news soon on that.

Sorry to get off topic, I really hope SHoP does end up designing a 1400+ building here, I couldn't think of many better locations.

Ha right? One 400+ meter BIG building is enough.

Imagine if this does go for tallest downtown (at least to roof), that view that Hudson 11 posted is going to be even more epic!

Based on the one she did for Miami, I'd rather not see a Zaha skyscraper in New York.

Have you not seen the utter monstrosity Hadid tried to pass off as a "skyscraper" at 425 Park Avenue? The one in Miami isn't bad compared to this.

Thank goodness Norman Foster's more elegant design was chosen.

I love that. The top could be more elegant than a simple flat roof, but otherwise it's pretty cool.
