ShOP was designing this. Hopefully, the new owner will keep them.

Zaha is designing a 1,400' tower at 666 Fifth Ave for Vornado.

Honestly Zaha's work is cool for low rise buildings but I honestly hate her high-rises. They just look so off and don't really interest me.

I think her proposal for 425 Park was great.

Also, this tower and the Park Lane will both be the 220 CPS/15 CPW in the next wave. Vornado will accept nothing less than a colossal grand slam.

Per Curbed this afternoon, the City Planning Commission has approved an air rights transfer that move the total development rights to a massive 1,067,350!

Quote:
The City Planning Commission has just approved the transfer of thousands of square feet of air rights from an adjacent lot to 80 South Street, a tipster has revealed to Curbed. Since the lots were acquired by the U.S. subsidiary of the Chinese investment company China Oceanwide Holdings in August 2015, 426,940 square feet of air rights have been transferred to the lot. Early rumors surrounding the site speculated that the developer was planning a supertall tower. While no plans have been filed with the Department of Buildings, it looks like at least something is up.

The transfer could lead to the construction of a building spanning 1,067,350 square feet, according to the documents submitted by 80 South Street LLC to the City Planning Commission.

China Oceanwide Holdings acquired the property at 80 South Street along with another site at 163 Front Street for $390 million in August last year from the Howard Hughes Corporation.

At that time plans for the site called for the construction of a 820,000 square foot tower with 440,000 square feet of residential space.
Here's the latest planning diagram:

Holy crap! This one will be massive.
Considering how tiny the site is, I can only imagine how tall it'll be.
Clearly my most anticipated tower right now along with 666 5th ave.

Wow!

This certainly makes up for other recent disappointments in NY, I was expecting bad news but this is great.

Compared to the surrounding buildings it looks like it could be ~450 meters albeit just a massing model.

With SHoP possibly still behind this we may see a new tallest! This is really incredible news. Helps the spiral go down a little easier

I'm not sure Shop is involved with this tower, but that sure adds to the intrigue.
I really cannot wait to see how it turns out.

After the real buzzkill with 42 Trinity only being 500 ft(despite a really nice glass design)when it was expected to be a little more than twice that size, this gets me really excited again!

China Oceanwide Holdings ?

What is going on here? The Waldorf was bought by Chinese? And now China Oceanwide Holdings ..

China Oceanwide Holdings Group was founded in 1985 by Mr. Lu Zhiqiang, the founder, legal representative, Communist Party secretary, and chairman of the group, as well as a member of the standing committee of the 12th Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, vice president of the China Non-governmental Chamber of Commerce, deputy chairman of the Oceanwide Foundation, deputy chairman of the China Foundation for Guangcai Program, and deputy chairman of the China Minsheng Banking, etc.
They just like to build skyscrapers? And there aren't room for any more back in China?

Even a "normal sized" supertall will have a massive impact here. A 400m+ behemoth will be epic.

Can't wait for more details to be released!

See Japan in the late 80s/early 90s.

True, but I think this would be the perfect place for a building higher than 1WTC (at least to roof).

It would balance out lower Manhattan well.

I tried to do a floor count, although it's not easy with a low-res diagram, and picked out about 90+ including the podium and mechanicals. Anyone with better patience than me have a different count?

In any case, this really does seem like it could rival One WTC. Between the JC and DoBro developments, we could soon have two waterways framed by supertalls, much like Victoria Harbor in Hong Kong.

I counted 112 floors, someone may want to double check... that would be ridiculous at luxury floor-ceiling heights..... as well as no crown or setbacks.

If it is really 112 floors, it could even reach a height of about 500m That would be amazing.
