luckily there's also a ~670' tower being built literally right next to this one, to make it less of a sore thumb height wise. Not to mention Extell's tower which will loom hundreds of feet over the Manhattan Bridge...

Wait, that diagram that was posted was just a general massing, correct? Not the actual design?

I experimented a little with Photoshop and made up my own building for the site, just to get an idea of what Manhattan might look like with a tower of that size along East River. It really does bring some balance to the southern tip.

Yeah.. a thinner tower would fit much better here. And the idea of a cluster.. well.. bring it on!!
And look at 432 in that photo xD..

670' will look like nothing next to this though.

I still think it'll be good for the location, sore thumb or not

Guess the 1M+ sq/f are already accounted for in the current massing, but for some reason only 800K+ can be used. I'm still trying to figure out what happens with the remaining square footage.

Supertall after all; Chinese developer cleared to build nearly 1,500-foot tower at South Street Seaport
http://www.downtownexpress.com/2016/...treet-seaport/

Quote:
With all its accompanying development rights, the building will have a total of 1,067,350 square feet of floor space, although only 817,784 square feet have been zoned for use, with 441,077 square feet of residential, and 376,707 square feet for either hotel, office, or retail use, documents show.
Also worth reading in the article are the comments from locals bitching about the height. Hilarious! Nothing they can do about it now.

Sneak peak at Lower Manhattan once these projects are done (missing 2WTC and many Midtown projects):
