By the way, if anyone can confirm with official sources that the second tower is taller than 200m we should open a thread for it. It's around 20 floors already.

without the spire the height is nearly the same as GZ IFC. after reaching ground level it took about 3 years for it to be completed.

That's a great looking concrete ring. Is it going to be demolished later in construction. It was mentioned on the Ping An in Shenzhen that the concrete ring on the project will be demolished after a certain time. For some reason I thought these concrete rings were always part of the entire structure.

500m were only rumors there was no source for that. but i think now we can be sure that the old one spire proposal was 468m and the 4 spire one, which is final will be 480m. don't think the roofheight changed though.

439m is still amazingly tall for a roof, so i am certainly happy with the height and can't wait to see it rise next year

No. The hole has clearly gotten deeper in the last month.

I'd like to see a list of Chinese skyscrapers that DON'T use this circular concrete ring method.

I'm just kidding, there aren't any. I'm super curious about what advantages this construction method brings, though. Someone in another thread suggested that it's part of a mass production technique that can be easily replicated in every skyscraper's foundation, but that doesn't address what it is about having an oversized ring that helps construction in the first place. There must be some great advantage, otherwise they wouldn't be using it. What is it?

^Basically it's for keeping the ground steady enough, so that it won't cave in on the hole they're digging. When the hole is dug and reinforced, the concrete is removed and recycled.
