The section between Keminmaa and just south of Kemi seems to be an upgrade of the existing alignment. From Kemi further south to near Maksniemi runs on a new alignment.

That’s correct. The Kemi by-pass was originally a single-carriageway expressway.

The southernmost section, built in a new alignment, is of “narrow-type”: no wide median, just a central barrier.

Further plans include upgrading the section Maksniemi-Simo. It will be equipped with a central barrier, and from north to south there will be three sections of different layout of approximately the same length: 1+1, 2+1 towards Oulu and 2+1 towards Kemi. General plan approved, no information about construction start yet.

Does this signal (Moottoriliikennetie) tell about the standard of the road (2+2, 1+1, ... trumpet/cloverleaf interchange)?

Normal expressway sign I guess (only certain traffic, higher speed limit etc.)

Great. It won't take long before we see a continuous motorway from Turku to the Russian border.

Hamina by-pass and Hamina-Vaalimaa (Russian border) should be built before 2015 according to what the government has been announcing since many years ago, but we'll see...

Planned motorway network for western Uusimaa. Only motorways are shown, not normal dual carriageways.

New motorways:

- Upgrading Kehä I
- Upgrading Kehä III
- Kehä II new section (Road 1-3)
- Road 2 section Road 1-Karkkila, some 30 Kms
- Road 51 Kivenlahti-Kirkkonummi (UC) and Kirkkonummi-Siuntio (planned), together ca 20 Kms
- Upgrading of Airport road (partly completed)
- Completing of Helsinki inner by-pass (Road 1-3 and Pasila-Road 4)

Common dual carriageways:

- Road 25 Lohja-Virkkala (ca 10 Kms)
- Klaukkala by-pass in Nurmijärvi (few Kms)
- Tuusula eastern by-pass (ca 5 Kms)
- Road 148 in Kerava (few Kms)
- Road 170 Vartiokylä-Kehä III and east towards Sipoo, maybe even to Söderkulla
- Road 120 Kehä III-Lahnus (ca 10 Kms)
- "Kehä IV"/Road 152 (Airport)-Road 45-Road 4
- Road 25 Road 1 (Lohjanharju)-Road 2 (Nummela) ca 10 Kms
- Road 25 Rajamäki-Hyvinkää east (ca 20 Kms)

Also found a very interesting project (not in the very nearest future) of constructing a ca 10 Kms new motorway branch near Tampere from Road 3 in Lempäälä to the western by-pass in Pirkkala, and third lanes to Road 3 in Lempäälä.

And here ALL state-promoted road projects of the country EXCLUDING Kehä I, Kehä II, Road 120, Road 170 and Helsinki inner by-pass.

Allow a couple of pictures for "history. "
Reconstruction of the road number 6 on the site Lappeenranta-Imatra, July 2010

Construction of an overpass at the intersection of the road number 6 (goes above) and road number 3932/3933. View from north to south in the direction of Joutseno, Imatra left.

Construction of an overpass at the intersection of the road number 6 (goes above) and road number 14851 (Putkinontkontie).
View from south to north, Lappeenranta left.

Type in the direction of Imatra.

Adherence to the old overpass.

By "like that" you mean using wood to support the structure instead of steel pipes? Well, Finland is a heavily forested country so timber is rather cheap.

It is simply exposed decking for subsequent concreting.
Is admired by the use of such formwork instead of shields, as it is most often done in Russia.

Wood can and cheap, but labor is hardly so cheap, but making such a formwork probably still more time consuming than the application form panels with metal posts.
Although there may be local experts refute my amateurish opinion.

Hey, I wanted to ask about 2+1 roads in Finland. Last year I asked Finnish road administration to give me information about such roads. They gave me this table:

Maybe some of them are reconstructed or so. Anybody has got other newer information?

Those roads are actually not 2+1 roads, but roads equipped with a central barrier. There are both 2+1 and 2+2 roads in the table, those marked with “ohituskaista+keskikaide” are mostly 2+1, apart from stretches on VT9, which also include 2+2.

Numerous 2+1 and 2+2 stretches not included in the table have been constructed since eg. on VT4 between Heinola and Jyväskylä, and on VT2 between Vihti and Pori

In addition to these roads, there are some older 2+1 stretches without central barrier, eg. Between Heinola and Mikkeli.

I have never seen a complete table of Finnish 2+1 roads.

Hey,

I'm going to have a little trip to Finland and my possible route there is going to be like this (approximately):

Can I have any advices on what should I see there? Any roads, bridges or whatever? Or how could I improve my route?

Notes:
* - this is approximate route and I can change it a bit;
* - you can suggest also entertainment places (I would appreciate information about aquarium type sea parks if there are any. As far as I know, there is one in Kotka but I can't visit it this time ).

Thanks in advance.

I have been in Finland (and Sweden and Norway ) in the past 2,5 weeks. Of course I made a lot of pictures.

Something very interesting I saw was on road 4 (E75) Southbound, about 90 before Rovaniemi. This stretch looked like a temprary/abandoned airstrip.

Can anyone tell me what this is, since I haven't found anything about it.
