New City Hall eyed completion by 2012

THE construction work of the new Iloilo City Hall is ongoing despite its contract ending on August 1 and completion on 2012, Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said.

Mabilog said the remaining works are in actual physical contact and closely connected to the ongoing construction job that was not completed before August 1.
It is still covered by the FFCruz Freyssinet Filipinas Construction’s P368-million contract with the City Government.

The building is estimated to be 88 percent completed.

These unfinished works consist of the installation of jalousies, repair of some minor alignments and exterior painting.

For the jalousies installation, the job would take almost two weeks to finish, and the whole painting job is estimated to be completed before the end August.

The remaining 12 percent unfinished works include installation of pipes, elevators, ceilings and some divisions. These items are included in the original contract but were not installed because these were already changed and upgraded according to the revised plan.

Mabilog said the building will be finished by January next year with movable furniture and furnishings in time for its inauguration.

The city mayor said a competitive bidding will be observed strictly for the items covered by the P260 million supplemental budget for the building. The movable items that are subject for revisions will undergo bidding with the Bids and Awards Committee, Mabilog said. (Lydia C. Pendon)

The "Lin-ay" or "Lady" symbolizes the society, culture and economy of Iloilo City (and even the province as a whole). The monument on top of the city hall was made by Professor Edward Defensor (brother of Governor Art Defensor, first cousin of Senator Defensor-Santiago).
