Looks like some good news for the "O". I wonder what area will the company plan to build its new HQ facility at??

^ They still have quite a bit of their own unused land at Seaworld/Discovery Cove/Aqua. I imagine they'll build in the I-Drive/Westwood Blvd area.

a longer article mentioned dozens of executives being moved to Orlando... not sure how much office space they'd need... perhaps the Harcourt Publishing building off of Westwood... we'll see.

Lufthansa started service from MCO-FRA on Oct. 30.

Aer Lingus started similar service the previous week or so (non-stop flights to Europe).

article in the Slantinel said that w/re to OIA vs. MIA, 2-9% of OIA passengers use the first & business class premium seats compared to 9-20% from their MIA counterparts. Reason being that Miami is bigger and there's more $$$ there ala companies, etc. But that is changing...

I think Darden acquired Capital Grille and Logan's from their parent company.

It's too bad that they probably won't build a skyscraper downtown. I'd love for a company to move in or home grown company to erect a downtown skyscraper. When you go to Dallas you see CompUSA, Pizza Hut, FedExKinko's, etc. skyscapers, which makes the city glow with prosperity to out-of-towners.

-Martin Lockheed was awarded the $29M Hellfire II contract for the US Army. Some mfg to take place in Ocala as well.

-Chelsea (Premium Outlets) bought Dixie Stampede; the mall makes over $1,000 sf which tops out every other one of it's 20+ properties worldwide. Premium is in the middle of a 30+ store expansion; no announcement on what they'll do with the property.

ALDI supermarkets is entering the Florida market. This is last year's news. Apparently, they are looking at a Haines City location for warehousing and opening up a Polk county location along with 20 or so others in CFLA. They have a business address off of Vineland south of LB McLeod in Orlando. No news as to where the individual locations will be yet.

Nemours: (OBJ posted earlier)

The long-awaited deal to bring a Nemours children's hospital to Orlando is finally done. A spokesman for the state Agency for Health Care Administration confirmed over the weekend that regulators have signed off on the agreement in principle reached between the Nemours Foundation of Jacksonville and Central Florida's two largest health-care providers, Orlando Regional Healthcare and Florida Hospital.

Universal Orlando posts highest net income in 2007 (from the Sentinel):

Universal Orlando announced that its 2007 fiscal year finished strong enough for the company to enjoy its highest net income yet, $92 million, more than twice what was posted in 2006.

In advance of the company's fourth-quarter 2007 earnings report, which is to be posted with the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission later, Universal City Development Partners announced that its total attendance for its Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure theme parks was up 3 percent in 2007...

some sort of Mayors' symposium hosted in Orlando at Universal last Friday, the day of the shuttle launch. from what I heard most Mayors of hundreds of US cities... except, I don't think they hosted any kind of reception downtown afterwards. but, it makes sense... market the tourist district to northern cities' representatives...

I noticed at least a couple of ALDI's that have opened up in Orlando-- one off of 436 & Curry Ford and another on 50 near Kirkman I think. I haven't been inside one yet though.
