It's all about the geographical position. If Sarajevo was founded somewhere in a huge flat area, you'd see it develop much differently (hence something like Banja Luka).

Congratulations neighbours on another fine skyscraper addition to Sarajevo.

Once again you guys have set another height record for the region.

Pozdrav

Mimica, it's what interests me the most, since it's so narrow, it needs to build in density, and then in height.
And even though wikipedia says it's 300k (really small, I mean Varna is bigger), well it's capable of building high.
It reminds me of simcity when I built some really narrow cities due to enormous mountains, lol

yeah i think that necessity is the primary reason why Sarajevo is seeing an investment in high-rises. if the city wasn’t surrounded by the mountains then quite frankly we wouldn’t have a need for skyscrapers...

Can some of you Sarajevans go out and take pics of the construction, sort of update on things, would be cool, and once again congrats on getting true skyscraper.

Sarajevo will look pretty good in a year or two

I think Sarajevo will definitely have to continue down the path of taller buildings because of its mountainous topography, I can see that in the future Rijeka will face similar issues (and Rijeka has very little flat land and incredibly steep mountains).

You're absolutely right, we've got a small area with a high population (for the area at least) resulting in a high population density and resulting in density in construction (taller buildings).

Couldn't sarajevo expand outwards to where there is flat land? You know when you head out of the city the main boulevard, where the Avaz building is at, I see plenty of land there. I think its the Novi Sarajevo / Ilidza area? That side of town could really use some sprucing up, new investment in new high rises, since those current commie blocks are boring!

That said, Sarajevo's narrow hilly roads are nice, it gives the city atmosphere!

Cheers!

^yes but then the problem becomes, how far away can they build?
Sometimes it's better to build high, than expand far away, due to rising commute times.

Yep. Its cheaper to build upwards then to expand in great lengths.

expanding outwards would also mean expanding the city infrustructure: gas, water, electricity, public transport.

i think the cheapest would be to build up then outward.

The only thing that will be build in those flat lands exiting central sarajevo would be residential buildings, probably in the future all that land will be filled with brand new residentials since the cities population is expected to hit a million by 2023.
