It's a good move by Moinian including residential condos for this tower. I'm surprised with how many floors would be used for the residential! Floors 49 - 63. To get this tower rising should not require that much sq ft for an anchor tenant. Very minimum.

Also, I'm excited about the ground floor retail/ public space at the base of the tower.

From the new rendering, it looks like they have done away with that cutout by the SE entrance of the tower.

So we currently stand at 8 supertalls in the direct vicinity, am I counting this correctly? 10, 30, 35, 50 HY, 1 & 2 MW, 3 HB, ex-Spire?

8 yes, but 10 HY isn't a supertall. You can count Silverstein's 100 floor tower at 520 w 41st as #8 instead though. It's not very far north

Why in the world did I forget 10 HY was a skyscraper? I see the thread every day. Derp.

I didn't count Silverstein's tower because I was interested in the DIRECT vicinity, because I was comparing it to the tallest block in Dubai, which is currently at 6 completed and 2 U/C supertalls. I want the HY area to beat that.

What are the chances of another supertall popping up in the area?

I would say 8 would be correct in direct vicinity… well 9 if you count Silversteins which I would include for the heck of it.

1) 30 HY
2) 35 HY
3) 50 HY
4) 3 Hudson Blvd
5) Hudson Spire
6) 1 MW
7) 2 MW
8) 360 Tenth
9) Silverstein

10 & 15 HY are both ~ 900 footers.

360 Tenth is iffy. But it might break 300m. Anyway here's what we're dealing with (minus 2 Manhattan West, 520 w 41st and 360 10th) :

730k sf to build in that small and narrow plot plus you include the cost planned to build. I think supertall status is a no brainer tbh.

I'll dampen my excitement for 360 10th Ave until there's a height confirmation. Is HY West Tower certain to be a significantly shorter one or could it go higher in theory?

I forgot about the cost. If it will take that much to build I really hope that it exceeds 300m.

I think HY West will be primarily residential, and ergo, quite tall.

When you look at it in that photo, you realize the cluster is going to be sort of T-shaped: one axis North-South along the Hudson Blvd, and a second axis running East-West from MW to the HY west towers. It will probably look just as imposing when viewed from the south (with a full frontal view of MW, the core HY towers and HY west towers) as it does from the East or West.

Also, I think Droneriot is referring to the West Office Tower. We don't know that much about it, but in all the renders I've seen, it appears to be about as tall as 55 HY.

That's just the view from one of the corners (I want to say SW or NE). Remember the floorplates get much narrower for the residential section at the top. Viewed from most directions, it'll look uniformly or near-uniformly wide.

As far as I know they are already digging. Also, I believe there's already a tenant, but still no official info has been released.
