I haven't been to the Alps the last few years, so no pics of alpine passes

I have been on my share of passes, most of them in Switzerland, which is, in my opinion, the most beautiful Alp country. I don't like Austria, i've been there 3 times, and all three times were completely drowned in rain. France is also a beautiful country, but can't top Switzerland. Italy is more exotic mediterranean Alpine.

Passes:
Brünigpass 1008m
Fernpass 1210m
Gerlos 1507m
Malojapass 1815m
Hahntennjoch 1894m
Kühtaisattel 2017m
Bielerhöhe 2036m
Col de Lautaret 2058m
Grimselpass 2165m
Sustenpass 2224m
Julierpass 2284m
Berninapass 2328
Furkapass 2431m
Col du Galibier 2645m

I also experienced some tunnels;
Gotthardtunnel 16300m
Arlbergtunnel 13972m
Pfändertunnel 6718m
Oresundtunnel 5000m
Bielsatunnel 3000m
Elbetunnel 3000m

Hey man! You wanna fight? You want trouble?

Seriously, rain sucks is a HUGE problem in AT. Best time to avoid this, btw is June and September. I always try to make holiday in Austria during these months.

Can I see alpine passes with steep mountain pics, for example roads at a height of 1300 m and peaks rising up to 2700 and more just at the side of the roads, but I mean with steep rockwalls?

You're not going for the roads at 2300m height and mountains up to 4000+ m? (Bernina Pass, one of the most beautiful in Switzerland).

I don't think there's any mountain pass in Switzerland I haven't been to, but apparently it was all before I had digital camera.

I prefer the lower ones because I like seeing slopes covered with trees between the rocks (like on the Rila mountain) That´s why I prefer the lower ones.

this is exactly the landscape I like, you are low and there are forests and the mountains arround you are very high, apsolutely beautiful.

I think you are referring to the second pic, which is taken at about 2000m altitude, about the same altitude as the Glacier tongue.

The glacier tongue of the Aletsch glacier is actually lower as the ultimate tree altitude. Quite a funny view.

yes, I was refering to the second pic, but best height for mountainroads to me is 1200 - 1500 m, there the valleys are deep and the slopes go very high and with the forests you feel more isolated. the pic is great though, btw is this thread only about roads in the alps or also other european mountain roads.

Yeah, but you say 1500m as a road, and 2700m mountains, that makes a difference of 1200m. Bernina pass to Piz Bernina is over 1700m height difference.

that was an example, oh do you know how much 1200 m are when the slopes are very steep? Everything higher than 1000 m hightdifference and steep usually is beautiful but also lower differences slopes with 600 m can e beautiful. 1700 m is enormous

You should move to the Karakoram range

Or visit Kleine Scheidegg in Switzerland. There is the Eiger Nordwand, towering about 2000m over the valley directly. Really impressive. And also visit the Lauterbrunnen canyon then.

this is not directly rising up the valley

This is directly up the valley but it doesn´t matter, everywhere in huge mountains you can find beautiful places

What about this?

The difference in altitude from "down here" to "up there" is more than 2500 m. BTW, this pic is taken from Chamonix, France.

@Davidkunz: sorry...
