thanks for the pics. some parts of the road look scary, they could add some fence to it. those rocks instead of fence are typical for the roads built by italians in slovenia.

These are not really moutain passes but quite nice -

Manínska tiesňava

Manínska tiesňava (gorge) is the narrowest canyon in Slovakia. It lies 6 km (3.7 miles) from Považská Bystrica. It is place of great tourist interest, because of its wild and rare flora and fauna.

We were lucky at this day,the Susten and Nufenenpass were already closed an we had to reach Ulrichen somehow

Stelvio Bike 2004

Every year in late August, the Stelvio Pass road is reserved for bikers (including pass Umbrail - CH).
In 2004 i was there. I found some pictures ...

Those bicycle-only days are probably not that much fun for (semi) professional cyclists... Way too many people to pick up good speed downhill.

I remember my parent's car panting its way to the top of Stelvio pass... I can't even imagine going up there by bicycle :O

Is better a descend through so many cyclist that a climb through the traffic.
The silence that there is in the last km climb with many (exhausted) people creates a surreal atmosphere.
So it's a wonderful experience for a cyclist.
