Good points, isaidso, but the pre-cast and other materials are very blah, the buildings should've been taller, and the squished retail level should've been double-storeyed.

the base is definitely pretty shitty...there isn't enough retail, and the lobby is placed in a courtyard..doesn't really give the wall enough of an impact with a break betwen the buildings, kind of like 7 Carlton St. right next to it. if there is one thing i hate on busy downtown streets, it is courtyards.

Agree. It could have been better still, but do like looking at it, nonetheless.

Yeah, it is ok, and I admire the Met too.. but it surprises me that so many who loathe every project in town find tremendous favour with the Met. I never would have expected it to get on so many people's Best Of lists.

It does seem to be broadly liked. Perhaps, it goes to show that these same people aren't simply dismissing for the sake of being negative, but have different taste. When they finally get a building that caters to their design sensibility, they will praise it.

might also say something about the lack of tall, black buildings around here...and let's get some magenta ones too!

X Condominium will be black, and there seems to be a fair degree of anticipation surrounding it. The TD Centre complex downtown has given us all a taste of how striking a black tower can be.

As far as the third phase of this development goes, it can't happen soon enough. Yonge Street will get transformed by this and 1 Bloor East.

3rd phase (AURA):

1 Bloor East:

It's going to have a huge impact on this area of the city. Very impressive render:

That building looks like my PS2 slim in the last render.

A new night time render circulating that was posted on UrbanToronto. Nice white light accents near the top. Hopefully, this isn't simply an artists embellishment.

Gorgeous rendering! Won't this be the largest complex in T.O in terms of square footage? (excluding TD center.

1. Toronto-Dominion Centre
2. First Canadian Place (250,849 square metres)
3. CBC Broadcast Centre (160,000 square metres)
4. Eaton Centre (159,979 square metres)
5. Scotia Plaza (148,658 square metres)

6. AURA will house 137,813 square metres of total floor space.

Not including the airport and factories, I believe AURA will be the 6th largest complex in metropolitan Toronto. Not the biggest, but still one of the largest in Toronto. I'm surprised that Scotia Plaza (275 metres tall) since AURA is taller and much fatter. This tower is probably going to be closer to 290 metres, not the 245 metres listed here.

Possibly the figure I listed for AURA was before the height increase. If so, AURA is conceivable #3, but it won't be bigger than First Canadian Place.
