There are various suggestions and I really don't know which one will be eventually choosen, I believe for now noone knows. It will take years until the works will start. It's possible the officials want to start the reconstruction when D4 will be completed.

This is one of the alternatives and IMO it's the best one.

So its gonna be the same at least until 2020? Ive got an idea. what about continuation of Bajkalska along Slovanft and connection with Kutlikova over the river. It can be cheaper, isnt it?

Does someone, who works with highways or building visit this website?

I've thought about the same thing. I think it's a good idea and would help a lot of commuters. It would alleviate some of the load on Pristavny bridge, but not enough to obviate the need to widen it. So, it would not be cheaper because Pristavny bridge would need to be rebuilt anyway.

finally decent map of current motorways and expressways from official sources:

http://ndsas.sk/mapa-dialnicnej-siete-ewu/44907s (link under "Mapa siete diaľnic a rýchlostných ciest - 09/2012")

I think it's the first map with parallel expressway to D1 Bratislava-Trnava.

R1 would be start in BA?

Can someone tell me the reason of building short sections of highways/expressways (Trstena, Horna Stubna, Cadca). Its not just about policy, is it?

I'll pick fast and good. I don't care about cheap unless the difference would be hundreds of euro. BTW, I already have a vignette.

In that case, I would prefer this way some members of this forum would say that it's best via Hungary.. but this one looks much better than flat lands of our southern neighbor, most of this route is now through expessways and motorways

Thanks! The second route is the one recommended by Apple Maps. Google Maps recommends going via Hungary, but I wasn't keen on that idea. I would rather see more of Slovakia. I take it going via Zilina and Martin is not recommended?

I agree with you. I have to say this route is not so boring such as D1 BA-ZA..

Bratislava-Zvolen is not a problem at all. Zvolen-Lucenec has medium traffic, sometimes you can get stuck because of slower vehicles, but it's not that bad. Secton Lucenec-Tornala has low traffic, but road lacks quality at some places. And the last secion Tornala - Kosice is 100km of high quality and quite empty road, there is only one problem, about 8km long mountain pass.

generally, you can make it about 20-30 minutes faster, than google calculates (without risky overtaking and exceeding speed limit)

Thanks!

Would I be correct to assume that any 2x2 road is classified as either a D or R road and that the 130 kph speed limit applies? How is enforcement?

Not really, for example if you are arriving to Košice from Zvolen, there's 2x2 national road before Košice with 90 km/h speed limit. Also remember there is 110 km/h limit on 2x3 section of D1 between Bratislava and Trnava and 90 km/h limit on D1 (and D2) inside Bratislava. Motorways and expressways are always signed with respective signs, which allow you to drive 130 km/h, unless there is lower local speed limit.

Concerning the enforcement, I wouldn't say it's very strict, but it's improbable that you will drive all the way from Bratislava to Košice without meeting a single police patrol.

no, it's expressway with 130km/h. But there are two level junctions with 60km/h limit, so it's not wise to accelerate that much.
