Does this really matter??? I stick all my vignettes in the top-middle of the windshield behind the rear view mirror. Never had problems.

Wasn't there a possibility to buy czech and slovak vignettes at the "Moson"-rest area along M1 in Hungary??

I always put it in the top left corner, no one ever told me it was wrong,

Yet, it is possible, I bought it always there. But it is not sold in main rest area building where you can pay for gas, etc., but in a small box nearby.

The general rule for vignettes in Europe seems to be that you must purchase it at the first possible place, and the police won't enforce the law between the border and that first place.

Never understood why there aren't automatic machines for vignettes at borders though.

Let me continue in your thoughts: I still don't understand why the hell there are only two countries that use electronic vignettes. We are in 21st century!

Or even just having vignettes at all. Is there really a significant population of the country driving only on non-vignette routes? And with EU membership, doesn't the "EU assistance" cover any theoretical expense of foreign drivers? The whole thing is silly and inconveniences people for nothing.

There is. Even people living in rich suburbs of Bratislava are too lazy to spend 50€/year. I drive 150km/day and I don't need vignette, because there is no motorway on my route (but I still have it)

Basically, i live in Bratislava, work in Bratislava, spend my time in Bratislava, and buy vignette automatically every start of year. But there might be some occassional drivers all around the country, who take their cars from garage twice a year to drive from one municipality to neighbouring one to visit a cemetery and it still might be unfair to them.

I live in hope that the EU will make a point of trying to unify all these different systems. But if the Czechs and Slovaks can't even agree a unified vignette system, I don't see much hope :/

As for having vignettes - they make perfect sense in transit countries. For example, Slovenia or Austria. A road tax system would punish locals, whereas vignettes make sure that everyone pays fairly.

D3 Žilina Strážov - Brodno: contract with Eurovia SK a.s. was signed today, construction period is 3 years and price 254,9mil € without VAT. Basicly it's viaduct over Hričov dam and tunnel "Považský Chlmec", very hard and expensive section...

That`s great news!
This stretch is realy hard very much. What is the lenght? cca. 10km?
When is built mentioned D3 and D1 stretches south of Zilina, I suppose there will be huge improvement, both for Zilina citizens and transit.
