Also Bögl a Krýsl, k.s. was contractor of the bridge in czech Studenka. So Eurovia has nothing to do with those collapsed bridges.
OK, my fault. Just hope "Bögl a Krýsl, k.s." has nothing to do with the subjected bridge

Bögl and Krýsl company has indeed some good references. This happened just 2 monts ago in Czechia, 4 workers died there. (If you can't notice, it's "just" another collapsed bridge.)

Unfortunately, punishing people responsible for this is very hard. The company can just say it's not their fault, the project was bad or the material provided by another subcontractor was bad, etc.

Is there still any motorway opening expected until end of 2014?

Everything is late...

R2 bypass Ziar nad Hronom due to some landslides, there's a slight chance of opening it in December. And both parts of D1 are very late, because Vahostav haven't paid workers for several months, so they stopped working in spring and pretty much there was no progress for 6 months...

Thanks. Are the D1 contracts canceled meanwhile?

No, everything's fine, they are all friends... Vahostav is in restructuring process, so it will pay only fragment of its debts... Government lets it finish these two sections without problems and even gave Vahostav a lot of new sections to build...

it's not that bad, but progress is slow

Jánovce-Levoča is "driveable", without crash barriers and other minor objects http://www.dialnica.info/dialnice/D1...-Jablonov.html

Dubná Skala - Turany is worse, some basic objects are still unfinished http://www.dialnica.info/dialnice/D1...la-Turany.html

How is it not that bad? Vahostav officially asked NDS for another 6 months for Janovce-Jablonov back in June. Though I don't know how many additional months it asked for Dubna Skala-Turany. But we both know that section needs much more work to be done than Janovce...

Google Earth updated its imagery of several areas in Slovakia, including some in the D1 corridor.

1. D1 east of Fričovce. Lots of bridges.

2-4. D1 around Martin (west to east).

5. D1 southwest of Žilina.

New typeface (oppa Austrian style ) is being introduced in Slovakia.

photo from user expwy @ dialnice.info

Slovakia is about to amend the Decree of traffic rules that should officially recognize the new typeface.

That is the TERN typeface. But hasn't this been introduced in Slovakia a year or so ago?

Actually no. It is just wrong statement in Wikipedia.

There have been some assessments since April thus few trafic signs were already changed, but Universal Grotesk is still the only standard. I am quite angry because there has been new roundabout opened few weeks ago, and they put there inadequately huge signs written in Universal Grotesk. AFAIK the batch signs replacement is scheduled in Bratislava as soon as the amendment of Decree of Traffic rules will be released so this brand new signs will be replaced soon.

Why do you think? The current typeface is gross and barely legible. At least they used to apply larger character spacing and all caps earlier which was good, but now it looks like scribbles.

Older vs. current ones

old font(s) was/were recognizable. this "austrian" has maybe larger letters, but it isn't original at all. when i consider that old was also well readable, that's why i find it not better.

Some were used even earlier in Winter on the occasion of D1 Outlet project kick-off. New arrows style were tested as well.

Those fonts are not part of national identity to me. It must be rather practical. Universal Grotesk was invented by Grafotechna company to newspaper headlines. We've already used more international fonts before (Gill Sans for example) don't know why did competent people decide to employ this one in '80s.
