Not bad, but the font size could've been a bit smaller or if it had more space between names. It looks and feels compressed..

While the previous one had too much free space.

But initially by the contract, Dubna Skala - Turany was supposed to be done in November 2014. Now they say, it will be opened for motorists in June and surrounding works (recultivation of fields and so) will continue till September.

Also initially by the contract, Janovce - Levoca in December 2013 !! And still not clear when it will be open...

Maybe I have used too strong words. Nevertheless, Dubná Skala - Turany will be very probably to first opened section of D1 this year. I hope it will be in the first half of summer because I would like to use it on my way to vacation.

I am quite surprised that I haven't seen the visuals of Bratislava's section of R7 expressway, which were published quite a long ago...so lets correct it

Without Žilina bypass, D3 won't be so useful Cities are always the problem with congestions.

Photos of aforementioned replacement of crash barriers. The first photo is from R1 Trnava - Nitra and the second is from R1A - northern bypass of Nitra. As you can see, the new crash barriers are pretty shiny.

Unless something has changed, there's a sales point at the old border crossing, so there's absolutely no reason to use the D2 without a vignette.

I keep saying it, but I still don't understand why Slovakia doesn't make a transit-vignette available. 10 Euro is *way* too much for the short transit from the Czech to Hungarian borders. I tested the alternative route last time, and it was only about 15 minutes longer. Same goes for the absurd tolling of the D4 - at the most, wouldn't it just make sense to have the option of a cheap (1 Euro) transit vignette available?

€ 10 for 81 km is € 0.12 per kilometer. You wouldn't be much cheaper off with a distance-based toll there. Some French autoroutes charge even more than that.

While vignette systems are often cheaper than distance-based tolls, they tend to overcharge foreigners compared to citizens. The share of kilometers driven by foreigners is much smaller than the share they pay in vignettes. It's usually around 3 - 5% of passenger car kilometers, but around 20% of vignette revenue.

It's not quite 81km, because the bypass of Bratislava is toll free. The toll free section includes the Lafranconi Bridge and the Sitina Tunnel.

And yes, I absolutely agree. 7/10 day vignettes are a racket, especially for transit traffic. I wonder how long each country can maintain separate vignette systems, especially given that the time wasted in stopping and getting a vignette can be comparable to border control. Let's not mention the price gouging on sales points abroad!

was that plan from the beginning (1990es, or whenever SK made a plan for motorway network) that D3 passes over acumulation lake Hríčov?

D2 isn't the worst. D2 is 80 km of continuous motorways from border to border. Foreigners hate especially R1 between Zvolen - Banská Bystrica which is like 15 km. A bit better is R4 and D1 in eastern Slovakia, but still combined length of tolled sections is just 34 km.

I support cheap 1 day vignettes, but this should be pushed on EU level. It would be unfair if some countries used cheap 1 day vignettes and some expensive distance based tolls.

I don't thing there were any real plans before 2000's. There were various proposed variants and it's disputable if this is the best one.
