What's wrong with that? Are you one of the "fliers"? How much time will you loose?

Speed limit is a maximum speed not a target speed on any stretch of the road.

There is long piece of motorway from Prešov to Branisko and from Branisko to Ružomberok. It is simply annoying to slow down from 130kmh to 60kmh, equal to driving on long good quality road with limit 90-100 and then slowing down to 40kmh in large village

Well, likely I am biased, because I am used to have motorways to be occasionally broken up by a one-laned tunnel (even though there are not that many left in Austria anymore..).

Still, the tunnel you talk about is about 5 km long.. So if you go there with 60, it takes you 5 mins, if you go there with 80, you will be 1:25 mins faster - but I really don't see how that makes any difference on a 150km stretch from Presov zu Ruzomberok...

So, yes, it might be a slight nuisance to be a bit slower, but as long as the tunnel doesn't constitute a major bottleneck because of too much traffic (think of Karawanken tunnel nowadays...), then I don't understand your exasperation

For passenger cars it most probably should not, but let us better wait till oficial opening. For trucks, however, it will be payable.

The future D1-R4 interchange at Prešov-west looks pretty interesting.

R2 Ruskovce - Pravotice (the bypass of Bánovce nad Bebravou) will open to traffic next week. It's a two-lane bypass, Google Earth has recently updated its imagery in this area, showing the new road south of Bánovce nad Bebravou. The imagery is dated 29 June 2016. It looks like the overpasses were built long enough to fit a second carriageway underneath it.

R2

R2 around Bánovce nad Bebravou opened to traffic today. It's a two-lane expressway, and will not be tolled. Construction lasted 2.5 years and has cost € 88.1 million.

Some news from Slovak motorway issues:
  • D1 Budimír - Bidovce construction should begin in November. The section has already signed contract.
  • First earthing works began on the big Bratislava bypass D4/R7, section Dunajská Lužná - Holice, as this section was more advanced in respect to the approvals. More/other sections construction should begin in Spring.
  • Still awaiting for the contract signing for the D1 Prešov bypass and D3 Čadca bypass. The mayors of both cities urge for the speeding up the construction start, as the traffic volume and moreover truck transport in both cities reaches sometimes unbearable level.
  • As it concerns continuation of western R2, adjacent section to be tendered is Mníchova Lehota - Ruskovce, but in 2019 probably.
  • D3 Svrcinovec - Skalite and R2 Zvolen vychod - Pstrusa opening dates should remain this year, although there are rumours of postponing, the latest press reports, however, states November/end of the year as opening dates.

Some progress photos from www.dialnice.info:

R2 Bánovce nad Bebravou

Some photos of the new two-lane R2 that opened to traffic yesterday. It replaces I/9 (former I/50) as the route through Bánovce nad Bebravou.

You know more than some Slovaks who are in charge of motorways

I of course welcome this section, traffic situation in Bánovce was terrible, but I have to point out this (on the photo above) is exactly the spot of the biggest mistake concerning this section. In early plans there was supposed to be an interchange of R2 and II/592 at this place, but it was cancelled to save some money. The bridge had to be build anyway, because the R2 crosses railway, small stream and road II/592 there, thus only ramps connecting R2 to II/592 are missing. This little money saver measure however means entire area south/south-western of Bánovce including biggest town in the area Topoľčany doesn't have effective way to access the R2.

I think there is easy to build the ramps in order to create interchange of R2 and II/592.

Such ramps would also have to cross the railroad. I don't know how busy the railroad is, but ramps crossing railroads is generally avoided.

I'm not too impressed with this 'half profile' motorway. At best, it doesn't make another carriageway impossible, but it is hardly designed to easily build another carriageway. All embankments would need to be widened, only the overpasses are wide enough for a second carriageway. And the construction cost was pretty high for a two-lane road (about € 8 million/km, they build full motorways for half that money in Spain...)

It suggests that it may be a very long time before R2 becomes a motorway in this area.

Not possible in Slovakia:

A motorway/expressway ramp must be properly signposted at the start of the section so that you have an information about the Mwy/Exwy as you are entering the last intersection (and have a chance to chose other way in case you don't want to use Mwy/Exwy). I think the same goes for other countries too.

Once you are on motorway ramp, you are de facto on motorway. Level crossing would be against road standards.
