It is nice to read this, because there is long-running discussion in SK media now. Some NGOs and so-called analysts suggest to reduce parameters of our motorways/expressways, or even cancel some of them, because we don't have money to build them.

But here, in international forum, we see the problem - our roads are extremly overpriced.

There are 14 bridges on this 4.4 km section (some sources say 5.2 km). If the average bridge cost is € 3 million, that will explain over half the cost of R3. Then there is a rest area, some embankment / slope stabilization work, right of way acquisition and the construction of two interchanges and the road itself. A section will be constructed with four lanes.

All right Chris, but even taking into consideration what you wrote above, the price would be acceptable for 2x2 motorway. So I still think this road is overpriced at least by 30%.
On polish side there is S7 (2x2) u/c, 7,6 km long, in similar terrain, where gross price of the contract is 521 519 095,35 PLN, what gives cca. 68 620 933,60 PLN/km or 16 338 317,52 EUR/km (1 EUR = 4,2 PLN). And there are also 2 rest areas, many bridges (length from 100m to almost 600m) etc.
Next section with over 2 km double tube tunnel is much more expensive (over 76 m EUR/km), but because of tunnel ofcourse.

It's not as easy to compare prices as it seems.

Several things have to be considered
* the type of contract: design-build or simple 'build' contracts (not to mention PPP concessions)
* whether it includes VAT or not
* if it is a pure construction contract, or if the budget includes right of way acquisition
* the amount of utility work needed
* whether the construction ends at a simple temporary endpoint or a full interchange, with or without a bridge for the next phase.

It's only suggested price, result of the tender can be lower. But it doesn't change, that almost every construction is overpriced here...

Terrain can be simmilar, but the type of soil can be vastly different. And I guess that it might be, since the Slovak motorway runs through a valley created by a fairly strong river, which the Polish one doesn't. AFAIK if there is a half-profile construction in Slovakia, the groundwork, which tends to be fairly expensive, is still done for the full profile. Yes, our roads are overpriced, but I don't think the higher average price compared to other countries in Europe is totally unjustified.

I mostly agree, but the soil is not much different, as well as terrain with many valleys, rivers etc.
I still think this road is overpriced at all.

D3 open door day

Next Saturday, on October 14, there will be open door day on D3 Žilina Strážov - Žiina Brodno, what means, that opening of the section is a matter of weeks and days.

If they open D3 this year, 2018 will be year without any new motorway. D1 Hričovské Podhradie - Lietavská Lúčka may be finished, but not connected to road I/64

Yeah mate, if NDS won´t think of some temporary exit to I/64, almost finished D1 section could not be opened. If Lietavská Lúčka feeder will be opened next year, it will be a nice surprise.
