Video including drive on finished sections.

This motorway will be also scenic one as along the whole stretch is a nice view on the High Tatras. It will further ease the connection to eastern Slovakia. Also the traffic jams in Poprad will get less heavier.

Today in the morning ca. 20 km of D1 motorway Mengusovce -Jánovce has been opened to the traffic. Adjacent another ca. 8 km is U/C, including tunnel Borik and is planned to be finished next year. The only disadvantage is, that 12 km of the opened section is in half profile, but the second profile is U/C with planned September next year opening.

Here is the crash test /simulated mass accident/ before opening.

This doesn't look wide enough for 4 lanes and shoulders.

It's half-profile most likely.

D1 motorway is planned and constructed with the total width of 26,5m /norm D 26,5/, so there is enough space for the 2+2 lanes plus emergency lanes. Exception is the section Bratislava-Trnava, which is upgraded to 3+3 lanes, see some previous posts.
Although some years ago there have been plans to construct some sections of D1 in half profile, these plans have been abandonded due to incresing traffic. Now all sections of D1 are planned and constructed for at least full profile 2+2 motorway.

Bratislava-Trnava is upgraded already or being upgraded now?

For now they only removed bushes from median. Main works on temporary 2x3 upgrade (without shoulders) will start in spring. Works on real 2x3 motorway will start in 2011 though.

that deck is not the deck of the motorway, but the deck of a 2x1 connection road between the main road of the city and the "centrum" IC of the motorway.

overall plan:

and the viaduct and IC in detail:

no, Ive just looked at the photos carefully...

however its a really spectacular project (this is the slovakian millau )

you are building this viaduct across the city b/c it is an economic solution in that area...
whereas weve built köröshegy just to bypass a little village, and to save 5-6 houses from demolition...

This is the cheapest variant, but it was connected with so much arguments, conflicts, trials and protests that even the most expansive variant built in 90's would actually cost less than this one which is U/C now.

Winner of 2nd PPP packet declared

And now - the winner of the 2nd PPP packet is already known. French-Dutch consortium Vinci and ABN AMRO was, according to the latest press news declared as the winner for the construction and operation of the ca.50 km section of Nitra-Tekovské Nemce and Banská Bystrica nothern bypass. The process is not finalised yet, as the contract needed to be signed, possible protests from other contenderers should be also taken into the account. But the construction start in Spring seems to be realistic now.

Next is the finalising the negotiations with the consortia, aiming for the operationand construction of the 1stpacket D1 sections. This should be done in January.

You mean R1? From 168 km is finished approximately 104 km, 18km is U/C and for the rest ca. 46 km is announced the PPP winner. Final documentation /buidling permit, geology etc./ and approvals have been delivered and approved just in recent years.

Well, you know, many maps are misleading, bringing sometimes incorrect, not up-to-date information when it comes to motorways construction. There is always a time gap between map preparation and approval and edition. IMO here in SVK maps from VKÚ Harmanec and Malo Polo maps are much more precise, than for example Freytag und Berndt maps.

Probably the map has been issued before 1998. Before 1998 Meciar government wanted to connect Bratislava and Košice till 2005, between 1998 and 2006 Dzurinda governement till 2010, after 2006 Fico government again till 2010. Povazska Bystrica bypass is U/C from December last year, shortly before that the section got last approvals.
