Mateusz, as the number of the road indicates, it is the second class road connecting Michalovce and Zemplínska Šírava reservoir. However, the 20 km road is four lanes of course without emergency lane, level crossings and other parameters belonging to expressway norm.
I found the beginning of II/582 in Michalovce, picture is here. But this is the road in Kaluža. The road is generally in average, or not sufficient condition and is planned for reconstruction. Area planning permit has been already issued, so in next years whole ca.20 km section will undergo at least repairs, maybe it will be reconstructed to expressway parameters, but I think not. The reconstruction will in any case improve the connection to Zemplínska Šírava, which is important tourist area in the region.

Ah, the only expressway between Košice and Ukraine.

EDIT: oops, not really, sorry.

It's of course no way an expressway nor national road. It's 2x2 between Michalovce and Kaluža probably to handle traffic during tourist season.

Eastern (not so important) part of this road looks like this:

There is also 2x2 second class road between Bratislava and Pezinok (II/502). This one has kind of emergency lanes and on some sections even barrier in the median. I'm sorry, but these are the best photos I've found:

All photos are from Panoramio.

2+2 national road is also I/18 between Presov and Kapusany (direction east):

It's about 3,5km long and it's wide, flat and straight. I've heard that it was build as an emergency landing zone for fighters Nowdays, it's good that it has 4 lanes, traffic is quite high. Average value in 2005 was about 17000 cars / day.

I remember it more urban, but I guess I fell asleep in rural part after a few borovičkas. I also remember it narrower, but that might be due to snow covering half the right lane.

II/502 goes through urbanised area too. But it's only ordinary 2x2 street there.

So let me ge this:
D4 comes from Austria, bypasses Bratislava, and goes back to Austria. Is there any similar situation (at least in the EU)?
i.e. a motorway n in country x that starts at the border y/x and ends at a border x/y?
Besides enclaves (or)?

There is a Dutch N-road (N274) that goes from the Netherlands into Germany and than back to the Netherlands. In Germany, the road used to have a Dutch number, but they renamed it now. Still it counts for this, though it's not a motorway.

If we're not talking about motorways, then there are countless such cases. But the Slovak case is special, b/c it's an entire loop. Probably not many people will drive the whole D4 at once.

I found this map on the Internet:

So I have a question - have they chosen the variant yet? And on highways.sk there was other location of R3/D1 interchange (green variant). What does it mean?

No, variant has not been chosen yet. Map on www.highways.sk simply shows R3 on place of present road. National Motorway Company prefers red variant (V1). But, town of Dolný Kubín don't agree with that so they must solve it somehow. IMO in the end they will built red one.

And this map is newer than the previous one?

I also found it:

What about these variants?

I don't know whether it's newer or older, but it's definitely very inaccurate.

This is expressway R4 (I hope you know it) Previous minister of transportation was from Stropkov so he preferred blue variant. Current one is from Banská Bystrica thus he has no reason to prefer longer blue variant so it seems red one will be built. But, construction of this part of R4 won't start soon...

Thanks! I realise that R4 road won't be built in the near future. And Polish S19 won't be built, either.

D1 Bratislava - Trnava upgrade

Last night works on temporary upgrade of D1 between Bratislava and Trnava on 2x3 started. Works will take place only during weekends. Now they are reconstructing emergency lanes. Then they will rebuilt median into narrower concrete one with jersey barriers. Works should be finished in May 2010. Meanwhile there will be built 2 lane collectors on both sides of the motorway so it will become 2+3+3+2. Price is estimated on € 36.5 million. General reconstruction of this stretch will start in 2011 and will be finished in 2014.

Here is video, you will probably not understand, but at least there is scheme of the motorway (around 0:40) which doesn't need translation:

This section really needs 3 lanes in each direction, it's very good that works on this have begun.
