You should rather ask some Czech, we don't have word "silnice" in Slovak language. But if you mean "rýchlostná cesta" which means the same as Czech "rychlostní silnice," then I may answer you.

Well, the answer is... "rýchlostná cesta" literally means speed road.

In polish 'rychło' or 'rychle' means 'fast'. But we usually use word 'szybko' which means the same.

And here are some updates from www.dialnice.info:

New visualisation of Považská bystrica main estacade. It is not exactly how it finally will look like, but so far the best one:

New pictures from the construction:

Studenec-Behárovce, view from the Spiš castle, Branisko tunnel in the back:

Finally, video taken at northwestern D1 east from Ružomberok. Few kilometers before Ružomebrok motorway ends and the track continues as national road. Traffic jams are quite often. Well, the motorway construction of Žilina-Ružomberok section is really needed.

Was that long viaduct necessary?

^Sure. If the motorway runs through the city, sometimes it should be. The viaduct of similar lenght is already on Bratislava D1 bypass and also on R1 at Banska Bystrica as far as I remember. Tunnels could be good option, however. Still, this viaduct will create some aesthetics which will be sort of added value for Povazska Bystrica.

Bridge engineers have a lot to do in Slovakia. Nice viaducts by the way, I especially like this extrdosed viaduct on visualization.

They surely have and in oncoming years there will be a lot of work for tunnel engineers too.

D1 Bratislava - Trnava

Works on temporary upgrade are progressing. It should be finished sooner than planned - before the end of this year.
But, we all can't wait for general reconstruction which should start in 2012.

D3 Skalité - PL border

Update from 2x1 section of future motorway D3 from Polish forum.

Wiadukt z drugiej strony :

i widok na dalszą część D3 :

Kolejny wiadukt - pierwszy przekraczający boczną dolinkę "wpadającą " do doliny Skaliczanki :

Docieramy do wykopu z ładnym murem oporowym (widok na obie strony)

Widok z tego miejca w drugą stronę (do PL)

Docieramy do kolejnego wiaduktu nad kolejną boczną dolinką:

I dalej wgłąb Słowacji :

Nice. By the way, pity, that designers did not plan the interchange Skalité, thus we have to wait until next section Svrčinovec-Skalité is completed, Svrčinovec is/will be the first interchange from SK/PL border. Some temoprary solution would help...

It's quite weird, indeed. This section leads to nowhere - it ends in meadow (as you can see here). On the other hand some temporary connection to II/487 would be very expensive due to big difference in attitude of D3 and II/487 not to mention the area along the old road is almost completely built-up. I'm pretty curious when the construction of the adjacent section Svrčinovec - Sklaité would start...
