You're right about that. Unfortunately, many Dutch roads that don't belong to the "main road structure" are limited at 60 km/h, regardless of road width/layout. These roads can have up to 6.500 AADT, which is, in my opinion, way too much for a 60 km/h limit. But tell that to the traffic safety phobics in this country.

Why they don't apply the general speed limits?

I believe local municipalites should not have the right to determine speed limits on their roads. This should be done only by experts in certified government agency.

In my municipality 90% of roads have speed limit of 90 km/h, but in neighbour municipality (which has a very paranoic traffic advisor) almost every road have a speed limit of 30-50 km/h. And road safety is actually better in mine.

Exits are not sequentially numbered, but by distance. This one should be 503 km from Praha (where D1 originally started in the 1970's).

I wonder when they will number them properly. I think we already know the length of D1 between Bratislava and Košice (except two sections it's already either built or U/C) and nothing will change.

I've seen 2009 maps with the new (lower) exit numbers on both D1 and D2, so some mapmakers thought the change already happened for D1 even though it didn't.

Were D2's exits already renumbered with 0 at the Czech border?

No, D2 exits aren't yet numbered. There are no sections with new signage. All signs should be replaced until 2012 starting from the oldest sections and since D2 is the oldest motorway...

It's not decided yet, but more likely is Švošov: http://www.dialnice.info/album_page.php?pic_id=5744

Hungarian authorities are worried about an increase in truck traffic on their highways after electronic tolls are introduced in Slovakia on January 1st.

http://ekonomika.sme.sk/c/5153511/ma...asmu-mytu.html

Some estimates are that the increase in costs to travel through Slovakia will be 15- to 20-fold compared to today. It will be interesting to see how many transit trucks will use our highways (or regular roads on which tolls also will be collected) afterwords, as truck traffic already dropped dramatically.

PM admits that banks don't want to finance the extremely overpriced (2 bln (000 million) EUR) PPP project (#1 & 3) on the Povazie northern highway D1 in Slovakia
http://spravy.pravda.sk/fico-banky-v..._ekonomika_p01

I don't think it's very likely at this point that the PPP would be stopped/abandoned (there's too much private lobbyist interest in tunneling state money to the construction companies). But, if it did, that would be the first smart decision of this government (the overpriced R1 Nitra-BB is more than enough).

It's mostly EBRD and it's one PPP project (nr. 1), not also nr. 3. It will be interesting to see if they will finally acquire money in February.

Very, very impressive. Could you tell me the name of design engineer and company who designed this viaduct?

Worried? We are delighted. The annual income of the motorway company will skyrocket,as most of the transport of the entire slovak economy will go through us
