Awesome panorama.

I wonder what will be the noise in center of Považská Bystrica (especially at night when everything is quitter).

Anyway on the right side of panorama, D1 looks pretty curvy, but I guess this is just a picture.

I suppose it will be smaller than now.

Assuming no expansion joints will exist on viaduct above houses (and regarding construction type, there shouldn't be any), there should be almost no noise to be heard.

EDIT: expansion joints will be on southern end of viaduct and right north of first harp (also north of river), construction is also monolithic concrete with just reinforcing steel parts. So I wouldn't worry about the noise, especially with installed anti-noise barriers.

True - studies have shown an elevated freeway reduces noise just as much as a depressed one.

R3 bypass of Trstená

Polish invasion to Slovakia. This is the first out of three posts.

It's actually about one third of that bypass. It isn't completed yet. Notice the new signage:

D3 Skalité - border

I think these photos from Polish thread could be posted also here since you can see at them border section of D3. This is the first dead-end motorway in Slovakia. Well, it's not really a motorway because it's only 2x1, but it's still interesting:

My Euro Atlas 2005 shows it in operation. Well, it looks ready, sort of, just needs markings, few signs and at the end a temporary access with the main road. If that should've been done, I think trucks over 12t could drive across the border finally.

Aha, so this is the road that I asked about and was told that it ended in the middle of a field. That is an abrupt stop if I ever saw one.

I think those photos pretty much answer your question. There's no continuations and for at least 4 years there won't be any. It's also impossible to connect the already built stretch with local road.

In operation there's only couple of meters right behind the border:

Then you must exit the motorway and continue on the road you can see at this photo (I mean the road which goes under railway and motorway). As you can see it's definitely not road appropriate for 12 t vehicles. All vehicles above 7.5 t are forbidden tu use it.

I am sorry for the delay, but 10x to everyone that answered my question about D1 above Považská Bystrica.I think it is a really impressive and beautiful project.
I will continue to keep an eye on motorway development in Slovakia.

Just a little tip to our Slovakian contributors;

If you talk about a motorway section under construction, also include between which or near which larger cities it is. Those village names are very unknown. For example, people can easier locate medium-sized towns and cities like Žilina or Ružomberok, but not villages.

I think it could be useful to mention also official name of that section (with those unknown villages) if some people decide to search for more information about it. With bigger towns it would be less accurate, but better for foreigners to get at least some basic idea where the motorway is so they should be mentioned as well. On the other hand, I doubt there is many people who know where towns such as Ružomberok (which has about 30,000 inhabitants) are.

BTW, yes, section Turany - Hubová is between Žilina and Ružomberok, or more accurately between Martin and Ružomberok (Martin is after all not that small town with adjacent municipalities it has more than 70,000 inhabitants).
