14.000 is too much for a regular 1+1 road in my opinion. Yes, it is possible, but not something to be desired.

We have Arad "east-exit" with more than 20.000 on 1+1 and there are no plans for upgrading or anything else.

20.000 vehicles per day on Dutch 1x2 roads is not uncommon either, but traffic will often be stagnant and such roads tend to be significantly less safe than 2x2 roads.

At least in NL that is just local traffic since all the tranzit traffic is taken by the motorways, but in Romania tranzit traffic has to go on this roads

eastern "exit": 12000 aadt, good, but hilly 1+1/2+1 road, D1 is planned in 2012
southwestern "exit": 14000 aadt, good and flat 1+1 road, R2 is planned in 2016 (!)
southern "exit": 7500 aadt, good and flat 1+1 road, R4 is U/C
D1, R2 will be bypasses, but most of trafic is from villages to city and back...so the main condition for D1 and R2 bypasses is overloaded inner bypass, not exits.

I'm talking about R2 from Kosice-Saca multilevel crossinng to the west, they plan to construct it in 2016-2019, when 20.000 will be surely exceeded. At the same time, I expect something like 10.000 aadt on R4 to the south. But there is one good thing about R4, it's very cheap compared to other motorways in Slovakia.

The cow seems to be pretty much relaxed.

It's luck noone was hurt. Sections at both ends of the tunnel are fenced, but they are not long and they are connected to old national road which certainly isn't fenced.

The speed limit on D1 will be lowered to 110 km/h between Bratislava and Trnava. This is the recently substandard widened section to 2x3 lanes.

How is the traffic on D1 Bratislava - Trnava on weekdays? I'm asking this because I passed that section only once, few weeks ago, in a Sunday at about 12 and I was surprised because the traffic didn't need 3 lanes.

Surely there is more traffic on weekdays in morning and afternoon rush hour. I'm very certain that three lanes are not made for Sunday middle-of-the-day traffic.

Your eyes are fine. This video is recorded on a Sunday morning, so the traffic is low and there aren't any trucks. I have to admit that I saw many trucks during weekdays on this road (I spent 4 nights in Mosty u Jablunkova).

Slovakia and the Czech Republic have truck bans on Sundays, so it's no surprise you didn't see many of them.

Chris, best post for last weeks in this thread!

and I haven`t been there for 5 months and I don`t use this road so much anyway but now I have realised that when they will build section from PL border to tunnel Horelica and sorted out Kysucké Nové Mesto (New town of Kysuce ) this road will be really enough for this times even if we do NOT have money!

Now that the true-Slovaks' Fico government is down, the "self-regulated" media are starting to publish reports on the imbalances in the highway network in Slovakia. This picture is from TV Markiza's analysis:

It shows that, among other things, the highway density in Bratislava region is 1km of highway for every 22 km2 of land. In Kosice, it's 1km of highway for every 750km2 of land.
