You can see an expressway sign there, which were introduced in 1999, so this board cannot be older. And the speed limit on highways was always 130km/h (and surely after 1999)

Zator is probably where road #28 ends and Sanok... Well - a regular bigger city in that region

Polish signage About Sanok: 35.000 inhabitants, not so big. Zator: 3966 inhabitants. Well, at least bigger than Jedrzychowice or Budzisko. (wikipedia)

We absolutely have them. From here just for you:

Of course this sign's been obsolete since Slovenia joined the Schengen Area (Europe's borderless zone) in December 2007.

And a photo of the motorway approaching Italy made by me.

I hope those videos weren't here before.

Border crossing Jarovce - Kittsee between Slovakia and Austria (motorways D4 and A6):

Border crossing Čunovo - Rajka between Slovakia and Hungary (motorway D2 and expressway M15):

Border controls on border between Slovakia and Czech Republic before Schengen. Although, calling waving with hands controls... But, still very interesting video:

Border crossing Komárno - Komárom between Slovakia and Hungary on the bridge above Danube:

Report by France 24 about Schengen border between Slovakia and Ukraine

That guy in the 4th video seems to be driving way too fast.

I think the checks between non-schengen countries were less strict than between a schengen and non-schengen country. (like Germany - Poland at that time).

Yes, they weren't strict. When I was traveling by car to various countries outside Schengen I was sometimes allowed to continue without checking and even if we were checked it was rather symbolical.
When I was traveling from Slovakia to Croatia by bus before Schengen we were checked only on border crossing between Hungary and Slovenia while on the border between Slovenia and Croatia (which is even not EU member) we only stopped for a while. On the border between Slovakia and Hungary we even didn't stop at all.

Sanok is one of the major local towns with more than 40.000 inhabitants. Do not trust Wikipedia - everyone can write there what they want. What's more, in that town you can change your direction into the road to Bieszczady mountains.

P.S. Since Sanok is 'so small', why haven't you mentioned Jasło ?

Yeah, wikipedia isn't to be trusted, but still it is easy to find info on it.
About Jaslo: it has almost the same amount of inhabitants as Sanok, so I thought I had already mentioned a town of this size....

Ok, ok. But you didn't explain why do you think Sanok shouldn't be mentioned on the sign... I can write once again - this road is for regional communication (the locals, tourists etc.) so what do we have to write on our signs here ? Budapest ?
