Well, apparently no one's interested in remote border crossings between Quebec and Maine....

Well, no pics, but I posted a nifty map (okay, a Google Maps link) right before all this started.

I've driven the Autoroute/Interstate (55 in Quebec and I-91) past Derby Line, but didn't think to get off and check out the town(s).

I did once cross here: http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ll...,0.109692&z=13

Now that was remote. Was driving from Quebec City to Camden, a small, pretty, touristy town on the Maine Coast. There's no way to do that by freeway and I was in the mood to see some back country anyway. If memory serves, the first stretch of road - and not a short stretch either - once into Maine was gravel, but this was 1993. Huge parts of the interior of Maine are literally unpopulated - you'll find population figures of 0 for most of the "townships" - owned by timber companies who grow trees and harvest them to make wood and paper, but a lot of it's open for recreation too.
Interesting. I'd love to drive in such remote places

Between all borders all around the world, this is the narrowest.

It is semi-artificial because sand... and I explain:

When Morocco independence, country was made with all continental area (both French and Spanish excepto two Spanish cities with a special status) but not similar with islands.

In fact, all islands that are located closed to Morocco coast are Spanish, even if some of them are very, very near to the coast.

The most famous ones are Chafarinas islands (the biggest and the name of a movie based in army service at Melilla) and Perejil island (invaded by Morocco at 2002 and made an international conflict)... but there are too many Spanish islands.

One of them, called "Peñón de Velez de la Gomera" WAS so closed to the continent that, tides made sand place between beach (coast of Morocco) and the island (Spain).

It is a very narrow ithsmus... only 40 meter wide!!!! but it can be considered as the narrowest border all around the world.

The "island" (now a peninsula) has access retricted to military personnel, so then, "border" cannot be crossed.
Nobody, except army is allowed in that Spanish island (and they arrive by ship, army do not arrive crossing another country). Spanish military people are not allowed to go to Morocco (could be considered as an invasion) as well as they do not accept any kind of visitors.

There are some forums and in one of them I read about a Spanish tourist who was visiting north of Morocco and there, he wanted to visit that island. Military controls said nobody was allowed to enter there because security reasons (even if he was a citizen of that country and had all documents all right).

Here is a very closed photo of Google where indicates the 40m wide

And a photo where Spanish flag can be seen in this military building

Advice: At google maps it appears as Morocco but for all cases: Africa continent is Morocco except the cities of Ceuta and Melilla. Islands (and Ceuta and Melilla) are Spain

I was there I noted a while for a month and a half when the military did was to goo enough, but for flying (one lieutenant ordered) were like a vacation, so that we could move to Morocco (but only to a barracks where we drank pepsi Moroccan and peanuts) in the same way that they could enter but to the bar to drink a few beers .....

Every 15 days, came the boat, a boat that normal Transmediterránea to the Ceuta-Melilla where brought over and the quartermaster products, specifically stopped in the middle of the bay and a boat carrying around both personal and goods ... .. the boat in the opposite direction took staff revealed .....

The electrical current is generated through a generator that turns every two hours, the water brought a Algiva, and the only way to communicate was a phone with TRAC technology, that if every day the boy had to send communications a code to Granada at the same time, and if not sent in time to a fighter is occurring there if we had invaded ... I'm talking about 25 years ago, will not like it all.

Shortly after leaving there the GOEL (Special Operations Group of the legion) took over from the peninsula and I was told to get started in the caves inside the Rock ....... on the tip of Peñon there was a cemetery where people were buried in the early twentieth century .......

On the beach at the right (fine sand) is where were the controls and often came the sister of Hassan II was riding the whole show haimas .... the beach on the left was for the troops and was more stone .....

I hope I have done some this information seems to be of Wikileaks, jua, jua, jua,

Thanks...

Between Argentina and Uruguay there is another "artificial" border made because two islands get joined by sand, but it is bigger (more than only 40 m).

The Vennbahn railway has been closed, but Belgium and Germany have confirmed that the trackbed will remain to be Belgian territory.

This picture dates back to 2004 when the track still was operational:
