In Europe perhaps, but there are border crossings in the world, higher than any peak in Europe.

Border crossing Tabanovce, Macedonia (border with Serbia on E75):

I discovered there is an interesting way to deal with queues at this particular border crossing: everyone honks their horn at the same time so that the officers move their lazy asses and start stamping passports faster . Well, I guess that's how things are handled in general in the Balkans.

Ok, last post then. Krakow perhaps? Ok, you're right, Sanok is indeed important, but why not sign Krakow or Katowice.

You see that often near border crossings with no checks or physical barriers. Maybe they do that because they may want to conduct traffic check incidently.

There is also a highway in NL (I believe A76) which becomes an expressway for a short while when crossing the border.

Officially, there are no expressways. We have motorways & motorroads, the latter can also be one lane roads with no central reservation. However, some 2x2 motorroads have a 100km/h limit. 100 is the limit on motorroads.

Very rarely. I have passed dozens of times the dutch/german border but have never been checked.

Interesting border between Greece and Turkey.

Is it so simple?

In trains they sometimes check for drugs tourists. When I was on my train to Vienna, I got checked, but I already told this story before.

Yes that's it. This pic is taken from Turkish side. A small viaduct half Greek/half Turkish...

As you can see on the pic the Turkish asphalt is much darker and smoother than the Greek asphalt

Nah we have a motorway starting after the customs, while they have a simple 2-way road
Plus if you check google-earth you ll notice the darker color of the Greek side
