How is it for someone with another passport but who can travel in those countries visa-free?

Maybe like a Russian touring and crossing borders inside the EU.

Sometimes customs officers think you need visa although you don't.

Custom officers just stop the ones they don't like. Last summer, when I crossed the German-Polish border, I stood behind a Ukrainian. It took at least 10 mins before he could drive on, while we (and the rest) could drive on in a few seconds.

Nice road. The Poland sign is quite convoluted though, no way you can catch its contents while driving!

Indeed it is very difficult to see, this crossing seems quit quiet.

Yeah, you just need to get to know about it before starting a trip, because if you want to be 100% saint, you ought not to drive like every of us in Poland does

Inspired from "guess the highway" this is the main Slovenian-Croatian border crossing Obrežje/Bregana between Ljubljana and Zagreb. In the front the Croatian side (Bregana), in the back the Slovenian (Obrežje) and an 8-lane highway between them.

Die alte reichsautobahn. Nice pics
Will this border station be demolished. It seems quite irritating that you have to slow down to cross this border.

Indeed, the pics in the Polish forum are also worth seeing.

You must remember, that last summer Poland wasn't Schengen zone member. Now to cross a border you just need to slow down at (empty) checkpoint boxes.
But in Germany you can see police cars on first two exits - Penkun and Schmolln. I think these are mixed patrols - customs and police.
Penkun.

Same officers, they looked carefully inside my car.

Schmolln - 2 pictures

Also in Poland you can see mixed patrols on A6 - police, border guards and customs.
