I crossed it by foot in 2006

BTW, that's between Drenchia (near Cividale, Italy) and Tolmin (Slovenia). It's often closed during winter.
I'm sure the road is paved on the Italian side, is now paved also in Slovenia?

The monument in the background is for Riccardo di Giusto, the first Italian soldier died in WWI. He died there.

When I get around to it, I'll lower this pass with one meter, and give a 100 million Zimbawe dollars to those who understand why.

It's open. Unless you mean the old mountain pass at 1,367 m, which is closed for motor vehicles. The Slovenian side is said to be the steepest in the Alps (up to 32%).

That is a pretty border crossing!

It would be cool if I could hike across two countries. It would feel a bit quirky at first, but yet again, it would be pretty awesome! =D
