In the Spanish "guess the road" thread I posted a picture to guess. It was a local road near a dam and besides Portugal.

About the road, nothing special. It is a road located close to Tajo/Tejo river and near an international dam.

But... take a look to this link (given by forumer who guessed it) and try to have a look to the dam. https://maps.google.es/maps?hl=es&ll...21136&t=h&z=16

Can it be the unique dam in the world where you cross an international border twice?????

Road_UK had been discussing new moderators 15 minutes earlier in RRA.

Me a moderator? I wouldn't last 10 minutes!

But what a hell of a 10 minutes it would be...

Are there lists of border crossing throughout the World?

This one is quite simple, copy and past the url-link of the image in the google image search bar, hit search and then you are able to see this link describing where you can find the crossing (under russia).

Shame on me I didn't read the whole page!

By the way, it all began when I was questioning myself about crossing into China from Khabarovsk (and I began thinking about Khabarovsk because of this news). I didn't find any border crossing near Khabarovsk despite that town is only a few miles away from China.

So I googled "Russia China Border Crossing" and that picture showed up and I was curious about where that picture was taken.

Not that much of border-crossings between China and Russia... Probably he started google-earthing the border from West to East and it was quite near when he spotted it

That's the most important Sino-Russian border crossing, I'm surprised some of you haven't seen it yet. Anyway, the Chinese building is much more grandiose now:

And a bonus.

I'm surprised the railway tracks aren't electrified... Moreover it is the most important border crossing, they should be.

In Manzhouli there are a lot of coal mines. I think that they have the "fuel" to fill up the trains. Then, once at Zabajkalsky (is it right?) I think wagons are electrified.

It shouldn't be unusual, using rivers as borders is so common, so binational dams are too.

A hobby gotten out of hand (Google Earth).

Anyway, there are not that many large border crossings between Russia and China and Manzhouli is one of the most important. The Suiman Expressway (G10) will also end there. "Suiman" is a portmanteau of the words Suifenhe and Manzhouli, so there's a national expressway in China named after this border city.

Some more questions

1. Are there any EU external border crossings where passport control is carried out on the platform/in the station rather than on the train? I'm aware of the border crossing in Przemysl where people boarding in Przemysl are checked in the station (and - I think - when they leave the train in Przemysl too) - but are there any others?

(Kroscienko - PL/UA used to be carried out inside the border station, but that border crossing has now closed for trains...)

2. Between 2004-2007, does anyone know if Poland conducted entry *and* exit checks (not just entry checks) on the PL/CZ and PL/SK borders? I'm struggling to find out what was the exact practice.

3. Was the PL-CZ/SK border "hard" between 2004-2007, or were illegal border crossings common during that time? I've found numerous references online to local residents simply ignoring the need to cross at an actual border crossings, and it seems that many tourist crossings were completely unmanned.

Take a look again:

It is a bi-binational dam

Looking the river to the Ocean (at Lisbon):

Left dam' side: Portugal (Portalegre)
Central dam' side: Spain (Extremadura)
Right dam' side: Portugal (Castelo Branco)

If you just cross the dam you are crossing the border twice!!!!!!!!!

Pre-Schengen, I remember passing through Swiss customs on a platform in Geneva, when I got off the TGV from Paris. They had a little booth set up up there.

Heh, I haven't even noticed we've been talking about a railway border crossing in a road forum. Still, I thought I'd get a few Likes for CCCP.
