by foot?????

If your feet aren't in a car, bus, etc... not correct by foot.

For non-native speakers, it is one hint that can decrease your note in an exam, even though first levels...

Maybe we should create a new separate thread for "Border crossing that you've been through", I suppose

If you went there after November 2008 the road is H6 in SLO and NSA326 in I. If you went before, it was 741-SS15. People still use the old road to avoid the vignette, but I'm pretty sure that all tour buses that go to SLO have yearly vignette.

It was 2004. Not sure what was the exact route from Pola to Trieste, I'd say the bus took the D21 in Croatia but I seem to remember a "Motovun" sign, which is more easterly.

It surely took the D21 because the A9 motorway didn't exist back then. Probably on the D21 there are signs to Motovun, that is outside the main road.
You surely crossed I-SLO at Rabuiese (SS15-741), as smaller border crossings were closed to non-locals until 2007.

Even if "on foot" is more common, "by foot" is considered a correct form, too.

Perhaps we can now return to the topic of international border crossings, thanks.

I don't understand this post. It has returned on topic a long time ago, and you've just made it off topic by responding to an old post and then subsequently moan to get back on topic...
