LOL. Even if they had trillions of dollars available, it would have been technically impossible to construct a road to the summit.

That's too bad for us tourists who can't climb that high!

The logical and commonsensical thing to do (and what's done in other parts of the world) would be to put the U.S. checkpoints on the outside of Derby Line and the Canadian checkpoints on the outside of Stanstead on the access roads to the cities, and anyone leaving each city for the rest of either country would have to clear customs and immigrations, but those not leaving the boirder zone could cross back and forth without checking in. In other words, the cities' limits would become the functional equivalent of the actual borderline.

No, not really. The Berlin Wall was designed to keep the people in, not out.

And now, between the skyline of El Paso, you can see the bridge crossing from Juárez City.

9/11 did actually happen. I mean, I'm sure we deserved it and all, and God knows no one is more qualified than Europeans to lecture other people about how to live in peace and harmony.

No, of course, but Mexico nowaday is one of the largest drug exporter in the world and many regions, especially in the North are involved in bloody gangs conflicts. And there are many Mexicans or other Latin Americans immigrants who try to enter the USA illegally (by land).

I just wonder, what would happen if I put on diving glasses and swam around the wall near Tijuana or if I accidentally fell asleep at my air mattress and water flow took me behind the border.

Same as on land border, you'd be fined.

Of course not, but for the last two days on this thread it's been about "paranoia about terrorism" and the Berlin Wall.... People too young to remember the Cold War seem to think the whole world should be just one big Schengen zone, and that any border controls at all (something that used to be totally normal even between Menton and Ventimiglia, for example) are signs of backwardness. I get the sentiment, but it's not realistic.
